Legendary AD Carry ‚Bang‘ quits as League of Legends professional
Former world champion Bae ‚Bang‘ Jun-sik is quitting as a League of Legends professional. The AD Carry is saying goodbye to the game after nearly a decade.
The 25-year-old Bang is saying goodbye to his last team Afreeca Freecs because he has to do military service. This is because in Korea there is still mandatory military service. All Korean men must serve a certain amount of time in the military between the ages of 18 and 28. Via Instagram, the player announced that his time as an esporter would always stay with him because he was able to make many valuable relationships and memories thanks to League of Legends.
Career
Bang started his career in 2012 with NaJin Shield, one year later he joined the then sister team of SK Telecom T1. Along with Lee ‚Wolf‘ Jae-wan, he was promoted to the main team the following year. The SKT T1 team of that era is considered by many fans to be one of the best teams of all time. The AD Carry managed to win the League of Legends World Championship at SKT in both 2015 and 2016. He stayed with the Korean team until 2018, after which he made the move to North America. Bang was one of the first Korean imports to the LCS. After Bang, several have followed; Cloud9 recently contracted three Korean players, for example.
Koran stays in America for two years, playing for 100 Thieves and Evil Geniuses, without success. The AD Carry receives a lot of criticism during those years, he is said to be only a shadow of the player he was at SKT. After his adventure in the West, Bang returned to Korea. He found a place in the botlane at Afreeca Freecs, but for a short time.
After a year in Korea, the legendary player decided it was time to quit and enter military service.
Bang is one of the few players to have successfully defended his world title. He was the third player ever to achieve a thousand kills in the Korean competition after Faker and PraY.
