Destiny 2's Episode: Heresy sparked widespread excitement among Guardians with the introduction of the elusive Barrow-Dyad, a new Exotic weapon. The initial details were shrouded in mystery, leaving players eager to uncover the steps needed to acquire this powerful submachine gun.

In the second week of the episode, a Taken Blight emerging in The Nether set players on a thrilling quest. This discovery led to an adventurous journey through the Dreadnaught, the Cosmodrome, and The Moon. As the quest concluded, players faced an engaging Exotic mission, culminating in the acquisition of the Barrow-Dyad. This article offers insights into obtaining this coveted weapon in Destiny 2.

Complete Guide to Acquiring Barrow-Dyad in Destiny 2

Discover the Distortion and Obtain Fragment of the Taken Bone

Begin the quest by entering The Nether. Select the Explore mode and opt for a solo adventure. Upon arriving, search for a Distortion that stands out from the rest of the environment.

Once located, approach it. You will be pulled towards and into the distortion, at which point a platform and a Hive symbol will appear, instructing movement in a specific direction. Stand on the platform and follow the direction indicated to teleport to a new area. Here, you will retrieve a peculiar item known as a Fragment of the Taken Bone. Secure it and travel to The Last City.

Retrieve the Quest „Path of the Taken“ from the Crafting Table in the Last City

Arrive at the Crafting Table in The Last City to receive the „Path of the Taken“ quest from Sloane. The initial requirement is to unlock the Scotopic Rune found in the Runic Enhancement menu. If Sigil Shards are not in possession, explore The Nether to locate chests and Metastasized Essence. Subsequent progress will lead to Distortions manifesting in locations such as Sorrow's Harbor and the Forgotten Shore.

Locate the Distortion at Sorrow's Harbor

The first Distortion to investigate is situated within the K1 Revelation Lost Sector at Sorrow's Harbor on The Moon. Venture into the area and search for the Distortion.

Upon identifying it, fire at the Distortion and position yourself on the platform. A Hive character will be visible, with a message directing movement. Follow these directives to teleport back uphill. Engage and defeat the Taken antagonists, including an Ogre, to acquire the Fragment of the Taken Bone.

Seek Out the Distortion at the Abandoned Shore

Navigate through a maze to locate the Distortion at the Abandoned Shore within the Cosmodrome, specifically within the Veles Labyrinth Lost Sector. Progress through the maze until reaching the chamber illuminated with blue light featuring a small Distortion and a shielded platform.

The task here involves interpreting multiple symbols. If the displayed symbol matches the subsequent one in sequence, follow the given direction. Successful execution will provoke Taken adversaries. Eliminate them and trace the pools of Taken energy back into the labyrinth. Persist until the Keeper of Power emerges, defeat it, and capture another Fragment of the Taken Bone.

Return to the Crafting Table for Three Hex Quests

After gathering two Fragments, head back to the Crafting Table where Sloane assigns three Hex missions. The objective is to be absorbed by Taken energy and defeat enemies before time runs out. Each mission culminates with dunking the energy into a nearby Distortion.

These Hex missions occur at the following locations:

  • Altars of Sorrow (Public Event), The Moon
  • Hallowed Grove Lost Sector, EDZ
  • Nightmare Hunt: Pride, The Moon

In each mission, locate the Taken spheres to absorb energy, and utilize a Taken weapon and Super to advance the quest. Dunking all three Taken essences advances the primary Exotic quest.

Enter The Nether and Retrieve Fragments at Hive Statues

To conclude each Hex quest, venture into The Nether and examine the Hive Statues. Familiarity with them comes from previous expeditions like the King’s Fall raid. Interact with the statues to summon a mini-boss. Once defeated, a Fragment of the Taken Bone will generate. Collecting all three fragments will open access to the Exotic mission Derealize.

Undertake the Exotic Mission Derealize

Start the Exotic mission Derealize from the Destination menu at The Last City, adjacent to The Nether’s entrance. Embark on a journey back into the Dreadnaught to confront Vrhiisk, disrupting his ritual permanently. Be vigilant of the Suffocating Terror debuff, which increases while looking at significant Taken eyes. Reaching ten stacks results in death.

Eliminate the foes in the Dreadnaught until reaching Vrhiisk, becoming Taken to obliterate Distortions. Once demolished, Vrhiisk transports you to a chamber. Finish him and observe the sequence of symbols and platform above you.

Standing on the platform triggers an eight-second countdown while an emblem appears. If the emblem matches the first in the Hive symbol lineup (left to right), move as directed by the platform’s base. Wait for the sequence if it is incongruous. Each teleportation brings another symbol. Match the sequence by stepping in the indicated direction.

After solving all four symbols, navigate through the jumping puzzle to meet the final dungeon boss. Here, defeat Xir-Kurr, alternating between Hive and Taken stages. Defeat its Hive incarnation but flee the room, trapping its Taken form for later resolution.

Return to the Crafting Table to finalize the main Exotic quest and initiate the bonus Exotic quest, granting access to different intrinsic perks for Barrow-Dyad.

What Are the Capabilities of Barrow-Dyad?

Barrow-Dyad stands out as a visually unique Exotic 720 RPM Strand submachine gun in Destiny 2, known for its distinctive abilities. Its primary feature, the Panic Response perk, enhances its tactical utility in battle. When using Barrow-Dyad, players should focus on consistently hitting enemies to accumulate charge in a special gauge. Once full, reloading the weapon transforms the first few shots into powerful homing Blights, delivering substantial damage.

A distinctive aspect of Barrow-Dyad is its automatic reloading feature, which utilizes the built-up charge, so managing this function is crucial for optimal performance. To maximize the power of the Panic Response, players should refrain from manual reloading until the charge is fully built up.

The Taken Divergence trait further enhances the Panic Response by rapidly increasing the charge when the player hits three different targets in quick succession. This capability allows players to accumulate charge quickly and unleash a barrage of Blights. As a Strand SMG, Barrow-Dyad synergizes with Artifact Mods from the Heresy expansion, such as Unraveling Orbs and Horde Shuttle, providing additional strategic options in combat.

Additional Advantages and Catalyst for Barrow-Dyad

Barrow-Dyad offers unique customization options. Players can unlock additional barrels, magazines, and grips through progression. This allows for a tailored experience when using the weapon.

The catalyst for Barrow-Dyad enhances its capabilities but remains somewhat mysterious in its acquisition. Once obtained, it provides access to several trait options: High-Impact ReservesHatchlingOne For All, and Target Lock. These traits can be selected at The Enclave, where Barrow-Dyad can be reshaped and optimized according to individual preferences.
