TFT Mid Patch Update: Key Balance Changes

Riot Games has rolled out a mid-patch update for Teamfight Tactics, and you can expect it to shift the current meta. Even smaller balance changes at this stage of a set can alter priority picks, itemization choices, and overall strategy.

If you want to stay competitive, you need to understand how these adjustments affect top-performing comps and underused options. This update may reshape what you play, how you pivot, and which units you prioritize in your next matches.

TFT 17.4 Mid-Patch Update

You see targeted balance changes aimed at breaking up a narrow late-game meta. Developers pushed this update ahead of upcoming competitive events to reduce the dominance of a few capped endgame boards.

Several top performers take direct hits. Xayah, Blitzcrank, and Vex receive nerfs, and the Arbiter Leona setup loses power to limit its consistency in high-roll lobbies. These adjustments focus on slowing down the most reliable “Fast 9” paths that have shaped recent games.

At the same time, multiple units and traits gain strength:

  • Ezreal
  • Aurelion Sol
  • Morgana
  • Stargazer
  • Space Groove

Space Groove continues its upward trend after prior improvements, positioning it as a more realistic option in standard play. You can expect slightly weaker late-game rush strategies, especially those fueled by augments and Arbiter scaling.

If Fast 9 remains too stable, further systemic tuning may follow in Patch 17.5.

Trait Updates

Several verticals shift in power, which changes how you approach mid‑game boards.

Arbiter now grants Leona automatically, but its scaling bonuses drop across multiple triggers:

  • Every 3 attacks: 10/18% → 8/12%
  • After spending 50 mana: 12/20% → 10/15%
  • Every 4 seconds: 15/22% → 14/18%
  • Per point of interest: 20/30% → 20/25%

You gain consistency from the added unit, but lower percentage returns reduce late‑game spikes.

Space Groove (3) lasts longer at 4 seconds instead of 3. Each Groovian now heals 9.5% max HP and grants 12% attack speed, both slightly higher than before.

Stargazer improves its baseline output. Huntress gains 15% base attack speed, and Medallion increases damage amplification to 15%, strengthening tempo-focused setups.

Augment Adjustments

  • Misfits no longer appears on Stage 4-2.

You cannot rely on finding it during that key augment round, so plan your trait pivots earlier.

How the Competitive Landscape Will Adjust

You will still see many players pivot into 9-5 level-based boards in the late stages. That approach remains stable and familiar for consistent top-four finishes.

However, the mid-patch changes should widen your viable endgame options. Expect more diverse late-game boards, which reduces the chance that several players force the same capped setup at once.

A major structural shift likely waits for Patch 17.5, so adapt within the current framework rather than preparing for a full meta reset.
