No new Call of Duty game in 2023

According to a report from the news website Bloomberg, no new Call of Duty game will be released in 2023. The new Call of Duty game coming out this year will be supported for two years.

There will be no Call of Duty from developer Treyarch's in 2023, despite the upcoming Call of Duty game still running on schedule. This year's Call of Duty game is a new entry in the Modern Warfare franchise and is being developed by Infinity Ward. Activision announced this earlier this month. Infinity Ward is also going to develop the sequel to the popular Battle Royale Call of Duty: Warzone. This new game will be released sometime this year.

According to Bloomberg, the upcoming Call of Duty title will include a lot of added content. Also coming out is a new online free-to-play online title co-developed by Treyarch.

For the first time since 2004

This delay makes 2023 the first year since 2004 that the Call of Duty series will not have a new title. The Call of Duty franchise debuted on the PC in 2003, meaning that the series will also miss out on a major new release for the 20th anniversary.

This delay and the development of the 2023 Call of Duty, come together at a time of much change for Activision Blizzard. Earlier this year, it was announced that Microsoft was acquiring the game developer for $68.7 billion (60 billion euros). The deal will most likely be completed in 2023. This would mean that Treyarch's next Call of Duty will be the first under Microsoft.
