Cloud9 fires coach during match
Nick ‚LS‘ De Cesare was shown the door by esports organization Cloud9 yesterday. As such, these things happen quite often, but the striking thing is that Cloud9 announced the news while the League of Legends team that De Cesare was coaching was playing a game.
When it was announced over two months ago that De Cesare was becoming a coach at Cloud9 it already raised many eyebrows. The American coach and streamer is known for his unconventional way of working and his temperament. In addition, Cloud9 is precisely known as a stressful work environment. The two previous coaches of the League of Legends team, Alfonso „Mithy“ Agruirre Rodríguez and Kim „Reignover“ Yeu-jin both quit after one half of the season because they perceived the environment as „too stressful.
Yesterday the match between Cloud9 and CLG was scheduled, De Cesare was then not on stage to lead his team and several rumors circulated. Cloud9 decided to give clarity immediately and announced through a tweet that De Cesare is no longer part of Cloud9. A reason for this was not given.
Cloud9 was the eleventh job for De Cesare within esports, on average he lasts 77 days in one place, with the 78 of Cloud9 he has slightly improved that average. The team's new coach is Max Waldo who was De Cesare's assistant before this.
Cloud9 not in shape
By the way, Cloud9 did itself a disservice yesterday. The match on the program was against CLG who were bottom of the table without a win. After a desperate display by Cloud9, CLG managed to win the game after 38 minutes and thus take their first victory of the season. Despite that victory, the team is still tied for last place with Team Solomid and Immortals. Cloud9 can be found on a shared fourth spot.
