Valorant: Skirmish Ascension Ranked Mode Explained

Riot Games expands VALORANT’s competitive options with Skirmish Ascension, a ranked update to the existing Skirmish mode. You can compete in dedicated 1v1 and 2v2 queues and track your progress on an official leaderboard.

The mode limits the available Agents and abilities while introducing a staged weapon system to sharpen the focus on mechanical skill and decision-making. You climb a structured ladder as you test your performance in a more controlled and competitive setting designed for direct matchups.

What Is Skirmish Ascension?

Skirmish Ascension transforms the original mode into a structured ranked experience. You compete in either 1v1 or 2v2, each with its own matchmaking queue and independent leaderboard, segmented by server, region, and platform through the FTW system.

You play first to 10 round wins, with weapons rotating in set stages each match:

Rounds Weapons Available
1–4 Bandit, Sheriff
5–8 Guardian, Bulldog
9+ Vandal, Phantom

This staged loadout system forces you to adjust your approach as firepower increases.

You also select from a limited pool of Agents, each restricted to a single ability. That design keeps the focus on aim and positioning while adding controlled utility for tactical depth.

Available Agents and abilities include:

  • Jett — Tailwind
  • Chamber — Rendezvous
  • Sage — Barrier Orb
  • Raze — Blast Pack
  • KAY/O — Flash/Drive
  • Breach — Flashpoint
  • Cypher — Cyber Cage
  • Omen — Shrouded Step

You rely on sharp mechanics, deliberate ability timing, and adaptation across weapon tiers to climb the ladder.

Rank Calculation

Skirmish Ascension uses a points-based rating system to determine your position on the ladder. The system measures your win–loss record and adjusts your gains or losses based on the skill level of everyone in the match. When you defeat higher-rated opponents, you earn more points and move up faster.

If you lose to lower-rated players, your rating drops more sharply. This structure pushes you to perform consistently against strong competition rather than relying on volume alone.

The mode separates rankings for 1v1 and 2v2, and each queue maintains its own leaderboard. Your progress in one format does not affect the other, so you must compete in both if you want standings in each category.

When two players finish with identical ratings, the ladder gives priority to the competitor who has played more matches in that specific mode. This rule rewards active participation and sustained performance over time.

Unlockable Rewards

You unlock cosmetic rewards by completing milestones and reaching specific tiers:

  • Combat Ready Player Card — awarded after 3 placement matches
  • Trade Me Player Card — unlocked after 15 total matches

You also earn exclusive titles based on your highest achieved rank across either queue:

Rank Tier Title Earned
Gold–Platinum Skirmish Competitor
Diamond–Immortal Skirmish Expert
Radiant Skirmish Radiant

You claim player card rewards as redemption codes through the FTW platform’s Rewards section. Redeem each code before its listed expiration date through the official code redemption system or directly in the game client.
