Destiny 2 Roadmap Expansions

Destiny 2 fans, a new chapter is on the horizon. Bungie, after an extended period of silence, has unveiled the future of the game. Following the release of The Final Shape, the studio announced Codename Frontiers, marking a fresh start for the game as it moves beyond its tenth year of episodic content.

This new saga, Codename Frontiers, promises to redefine the Destiny 2 experience, bringing fresh adventures and challenges for players. As the details continue to emerge, the community eagerly anticipates the new directions and innovations that lie ahead.

Two New Destiny 2 Expansions Coming in 2025

Bungie is shaking up its release strategy with two major expansions slated for 2025. Codename Apollo, the first expansion, will make its debut in summer 2025. Following closely, Codename Behemoth will launch in winter 2025.

Expansion Release Period
Apollo Summer 2025
Behemoth Winter 2025

These expansions promise fresh stories, new locations, missions, weapons, gear, raids, and dungeons. In parallel, Bungie will roll out four free seasonal updates, starting with Codename: Arsenal in summer 2025, and Codename: Surge in winter 2025.

Each seasonal update will bring new and reprised activities, artifacts, mods, events, and season passes, ensuring continuous content for all players.

Get Ready for Non-linear Destiny 2 Campaigns in 2025

Destiny 2's 2025 expansions will introduce non-linear campaign structures. The upcoming expansions, Apollo and Behemoth, will move away from the traditional one-shot campaigns that have been a staple since Shadowkeep.

Game Director Tyson Green hinted at designs inspired by metroidvanias, roguelikes, and survival shooters. Each expansion will feature a distinct campaign format, but will maintain the rich storytelling that the Destiny universe is known for. Expect a fresh take on narrative interaction in the coming year.

Codename: Apollo kicks off Destiny 2’s new multiyear saga

Destiny 2's Light and Darkness Saga has come to an end, paving the way for a new era titled Codename: Apollo beginning in the summer of 2025. This new saga promises a shift from linear narratives to a more dynamic, character-driven adventure. Players can look forward to uncovering various storylines via a non-linear approach. Game director Alison Lührs explains that the tale unfolds across numerous threads, offering players the freedom to select different paths. Whether choosing to explore area C, dive into B, or investigate D first, the story starts at a single point but branches out based on player choices.

The replayability of campaigns is also set to improve. Choices not explored on the first playthrough will remain accessible, allowing players to revisit and experience alternate paths. Apollo will avoid time-gated content entirely. This aligns the story's progression directly with each player's gameplay progression.

Despite recent challenges within the Bungie community, including mass layoffs, Apollo provides a renewed sense of excitement and anticipation. There is hope that Bungie will reveal more concrete details about the content scheduled for 2025 and beyond.

The next few episodes, Revenant and Heresy, are expected to offer teasers for Apollo, maintaining engagement until the full saga launches.
