Pragmata uses a checkpoint-based system that handles saving differently than many modern games. While the difficulty stays manageable, you still need to protect your progress when you face tougher encounters or plan to step away.
If you want to avoid replaying sections or losing time after a mistake, you need to understand how the save system works. Knowing when and how the game records your progress helps you continue your lunar mission without setbacks.
How to Save Your Progress in Pragmata
When you open the pause menu and see the Save option grayed out under the System tab, the game is not bugged. Pragmata limits when and where you can record progress.
You cannot manually save while exploring a mission area. If you quit during a level without triggering a save point, the game loads you back at the Shelter, and you lose any unsaved progress made after your last checkpoint.
Understanding the two saving methods prevents that setback.
1. Manual Saving at the Shelter
You can only create a manual save file while inside the Shelter, which acts as your central hub.
Once inside:
- Open the pause menu.
- Navigate to the System tab.
- Select Save to create or update a save file.
The Shelter also lets you:
- Restore your health to full
- Refill recovery resources
- Swap weapons
- Apply upgrades
Because of this, returning to the Shelter often improves both survivability and progress security.
You access previously discovered checkpoints from the Shelter using the Tram system. This feature sends you back to your most recent checkpoint or any other activated one without replaying earlier sections.
2. Checkpoint Autosaves During Missions
While exploring a level, you will encounter checkpoints. These function as both fast travel anchors and autosave triggers.
When you hack and activate a checkpoint:
- A loading icon appears in the top-right corner of the screen.
- The icon indicates the game is saving automatically.
After the icon disappears, the checkpoint is recorded. If you exit the game at that point, you resume from that exact checkpoint rather than the Shelter.
This system replaces traditional manual saves during missions. You must interact with checkpoints to secure progress outside the hub.
How the Save System Works at a Glance
| Situation | Can You Manually Save? | Progress Recorded? |
|---|---|---|
| Inside the Shelter | Yes | Yes |
| Exploring a level | No | Only at checkpoints |
| After activating a checkpoint | No manual save | Autosave triggered |
| Quit without checkpoint | No | Progress lost to last save |
Checkpoints serve two key purposes: they act as autosaves and provide instant access back to the Shelter. You can return to the hub, prepare, manually save, then use the Tram to resume where you left off.
Even if you do not plan to stop playing, activating checkpoints reduces risk. You secure your position, recover resources in the Shelter if needed, and return to the fight without losing time.
If you want consistent progress protection, treat every checkpoint as essential and visit the Shelter regularly.
