Hugh Jackman returns as Wolverine in Deadpool 3

Hugh Jackman had hung up his Wolverine claws after Logan. Only now the actor is back in the role after all, teaming up alongside Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool 3!

Work on Deadpool 3 has been underway for a while now, but few details about the film had surfaced until now. It was only made clear that the Merc With a Mouth will now also be part of the MCU, after Disney acquired Fox and all the associated Marvel rights.

Tuesday night, only a sudden big announcement was made about Deadpool 3. On his own YouTube channel, Ryan Reynolds, all in his own style, provided an update on the film. While the actor complains that he has no inspiration for the sequel, he just as casually announced a major role: Hugh Jackman returns in the film as Wolverine! The release date for Deadpool 3 has also been announced, which is Sept. 6, 2024.

Hadn't Wolverine retired?

The actor was actually done with the role after the very well-received Logan. Jackman felt the film was the perfect finale for the aggressive superhero, after a long career. In fact, the iconic hero has been played by Jackman since 2000, with his appearance in the first X-Men.

A role for Wolverine in Deadpool 3 just doesn't come as a complete surprise. Indeed, due to the different timelines in the X-Men films, the excuse is easy to make up that this is the different Wolverine than in Logan. In addition, Hugh Jackman has previously responded positively to a possible cameo in Deadpool 3.
