Cyberpunk 2077 breaks remarkable record
Upon Cyberpunk 2077's release, things did not look good for the game and, according to some, even for CD Projekt RED for a while. But just under two years later, the state of affairs seems to have completely turned around. Now the game even holds a remarkable record.
Since Cyberpunk 2077's launch, CD Projekt RED has put a lot more work into the game. They had to, because it was virtually unplayable for many players. Sony even removed the game from the PlayStation Store because of all the bugs.
But with the launch of the next-gen version earlier this year, the game is now playable as intended. In addition, a free update was recently released that brings content to the game based on the well-received Cyberpunk Edgerunners anime on Netflix. All this has led to a renewed popularity of the game.
Last weekend, Cyberpunk 2077 was even played by more than 136,000 Steam players at once. That's higher than the highest peak The Witcher 3, CD Projekt RED's previous game, has had in its entire lifetime. Cyberpunk, incidentally, experienced a peak of over a million around launch, but this weekend's sloppy 136,000 were probably a lot more satisfied.
The Witcher 3 also gets next-gen version
The Witcher 3 gets another chance to revenge itself on Cyberpunk's player count. After all, the still beloved game is getting a next-gen upgrade this year. This one will undoubtedly attract many returning and new players again.
