Battle royale mobile game Garena Free Fire has revealed its eSports plans for 2021. According to the statement, the Free Fire World Series (FFWS) will return in April and November, and an international all-star event is also planned for July.

The Free Fire World Series is back

The FFWS will thus return after a year of abstinence. In April, teams in 13 regions will compete for a chance to win the largest prize purse in Free Fire history. A full two million U.S. dollars will be distributed among FFWS participants. The event will begin on April 24, with the finals to be held on May 1. There will also be a brand new winner's trophy to celebrate the return of the World Series.

Garena also announced an all-star event where the biggest free-fire influencers and some professional players will play along and against each other.

Free Fire experienced record popularity ratings in 2020, with a peak of 2.5 million people streaming the premium event, the Continental Free Fire Series. Overall, Free Fire registered a 246 percent increase in viewer hours last year. Only industry leader PUBG Mobile was watched more often.

This increase in popularity did not go unnoticed by the jury of the eSports Awards. Free Fire won in the category „eSports Mobile Game of the Year“ and won the audience award „Best Popular Vote Game“ from Google Play a year earlier.
