CS2: Cache 2026 Release Competitive

You can now queue into Cache in CS2 after Valve added the map in the April 29, 2026 update. You can play it in several online modes, including Competitive, while it awaits a return to the Active Duty pool.

You will recognize the layout from CS, as the overall structure remains intact. At the same time, you will notice improved visual detail and subtle gameplay adjustments that slightly affect positioning and utility without changing core strategies.

Cache in official CS2 matchmaking and its path to Active Duty

You can now queue for Cache in CS2’s standard matchmaking. Valve added the map on April 29, 2026, placing it in:

  • Casual
  • Competitive
  • Deathmatch
  • Retakes

You still cannot play it in Premier, and it remains outside the Active Duty pool.

Interest in Cache increased after the Budapest Major 2026, especially when Anubis returned to Active Duty shortly after its removal. Valve fueled speculation on April 24 with a teaser post featuring past Cache esports highlights. Five days later, the map entered official matchmaking, but only in non-Premier modes. Valve’s note that Cache is available in these playlists “for now” signals that further changes may follow.

You should not expect to see Cache at upcoming top-tier events yet. Tournament organizers use the Active Duty pool, and Cache has not joined that rotation.

Valve typically adjusts Active Duty right after a Major concludes. With the IEM Cologne Major scheduled from June 2 to June 21, 2026, you can reasonably look to that window for a potential Premier and esports debut.

CS2 Cache changes: Visual overhaul and key tweaks

Players respond positively to the official CS2 version of Cache. You can see clear similarities to the recent community remake by FMPONE, yet Valve’s build aligns the map with CS2’s updated technical standards.

The color palette shifts noticeably. You get less heavy greenery, which opens sightlines and makes enemy models easier to spot.

Textures now show more surface detail across walls, crates, and industrial props. Lighting leans darker and more directional, giving certain corridors and bombsites a heavier tone while keeping visibility practical for competitive play.

Although the layout stays close to the CS version, you move through a map that feels modernized rather than redesigned.

Gameplay adjustments you will notice

Most callouts and angles function as you remember them, but several specific changes affect how you approach fights:

  • Mid (CT side): The window in CT Mid is completely removed. You no longer use that opening for peeks or utility plays.
  • A site truck: The large truck at A sits lower to the ground. You can climb it more easily, but defenders and attackers must adjust how they clear and hold that position.
  • B site barrel: The fire barrel near B is gone. You can’t use it as a boost spot anymore.

Some players report that B site feels more spacious. The structure remains largely the same, but updated lighting and cleaner visuals can make the area appear wider during play.

These tweaks do not change the core flow. You still rely on familiar executes, retakes, and rotations, but you must adapt to the refined geometry and visibility.

The removal of s1mple’s graffiti

Valve also removed the graffiti on B site that commemorated Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev’s iconic jumping double kill.

That artwork referenced a round where he secured a 1v2 with a mid-air shot followed by a second kill after landing. In CS2’s official version of Cache, you will no longer find that tribute on the wall.

Will a New Cache Skin Collection Arrive in CS2?

Valve added Cache back into CS2, but you cannot access any new map-themed weapon finishes yet. The update did not include a dedicated skin case or collection tied to Cache.

You may notice a refreshed map icon in matchmaking. It differs from the original Cache Collection branding, which has led players to expect a redesigned set of finishes aligned with the current version of the map.

Traditionally, Valve introduces a themed collection when a map joins the Active Duty pool. If Cache secures that spot, you can reasonably expect a new release, often referred to by the community as a Cache 2026 Collection.

Current situation at a glance:

  • No new Cache skin collection in the April 2026 update
  • Cache playable in multiple standard modes
  • Active Duty status still pending
  • Major tournaments continue without Cache in the pool

With recent gameplay adjustments affecting reload mechanics, Valve may prioritize competitive balance before introducing additional cosmetic content.
