Complexity Exits CS2 Drops Entire Roster

compLexity Gaming has stepped away from Counter-Strike 2, parting ways with its roster despite holding a top-20 global ranking. The decision comes after years of consistent presence in the scene, where the team had reached as high as 13th in the Valve standings earlier in the year.

The organization has been a fixture in Counter-Strike since 2003, competing across multiple versions of the game from the original title to CS2. For over a decade, compLexity consistently maintained a roster, making this departure its first absence from the series since 2014.

compLexity leaves CS2 due to financial pressure

CompLexity Gaming confirmed its withdrawal from Counter-Strike 2 after facing ongoing financial strain throughout 2025. The organization’s CEO, Jason Lake, explained through a video statement that the decision was not made lightly but became unavoidable as revenues declined. Despite strong performances in previous years, the organization could not generate the funding necessary to sustain a top-tier roster.

Lake acknowledged that the team might have extended operations for a short while longer, but leadership chose to act decisively to protect both the players and the division. Efforts to secure new sponsorships and outside investment fell short, leaving the organization without the resources needed to remain competitive at the highest level.

The announcement closed a chapter for one of North America’s longest-standing esports organizations. While the departure disappointed fans, the players themselves quickly transitioned to a new roster environment, avoiding prolonged uncertainty. This move ensured stability for the athletes even as the organization stepped back from the title.

Key points from the exit:

  • Declining revenue in 2025 made sustainability impossible
  • Attempts to attract investors and sponsors were unsuccessful
  • Leadership prioritized fairness to players by making an early decision
  • The roster found a new home shortly after the announcement
