TFT Patch 16.5 Notes: Key Changes, Buffs, and Meta Updates

Riot Games has released the full details for Teamfight Tactics patch 16.5, outlining every buff, nerf, and adjustment arriving in the latest update. You can expect changes across multiple units as the developers continue to refine balance and shape the current meta.

This patch gives you a clear look at which champions gain power, which ones lose strength, and how key adjustments may affect your strategies. Reviewing these updates helps you adapt your comps and stay competitive as the set evolves.

TFT patch 16.5 notes

Patch 16.5 lands at the midpoint of the Lore & Legends set and shifts power back into reroll strategies. After 16.4 increased leveling flexibility and improved shop odds for three-cost units, this update strengthens the units you now hit more often.

You can expect direct buffs to three-star, three-cost champions, pushing them into stronger late-game carry roles. Riot also improves several two-cost units so they better compete with four- and five-cost threats in extended fights.

Key three-star adjustments focus on:

  • Graves – Gains stronger scaling so he does not fall off after upgrading.
  • Rek’Sai – Receives higher impact at three stars to reward commitment.
  • Orianna – Shifts power away from her early ranks and into her three-star form.

Orianna remains effective at one and two stars, but you now gain more incentive to finish the reroll.

Some champions still struggle to justify heavy investment. Leona, Malzahar, and Zoe offer limited payoff at three stars, especially since Malzahar compositions often aim for alternative scaling paths instead.

Vayne gets targeted improvements to her three-star version to help her stay relevant in late-game boards.

This patch also includes broader trait tuning, augment updates, and system refinements. You can download and launch TFT directly through the updated Riot Client hub starting this patch cycle.

Teamfight Tactics patch 16.5 notes

Festival of Beasts Revival remains available through patch 17.1, so you can continue climbing in that limited-time queue during 16.5. This update strengthens Tristana, Braum, and Kindred, giving you more reliable carry and frontline options.

You should also adjust for balance tweaks to Lulu, Azir, and Zilean, which may shift trait priorities and late-game boards. Expect meaningful tempo changes as these adjustments settle into the current meta.
