Modern Warfare 4 Open Beta Guide Early Access

Activision continues its annual pre-release testing cycle with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, giving you access to an open beta ahead of the full launch on October 23, 2026. The test period lets you explore core multiplayer systems before the final build goes live.

The beta runs in two separate stages, structured to reward early buyers while still allowing broad public participation.

  • Phase One: Early Access Weekend – Available to players who pre-order any edition.
  • Phase Two: Open Weekend – Free access for all players, including those who did not pre-order.

If you secure a digital pre-order, the platform automatically grants access when the beta becomes available. You do not need to enter a separate code.

If you choose a physical copy, participating retailers provide a beta code through your receipt or email. You redeem this code through Activision’s online portal, which then allows you to download the beta client once it goes live.

Supported Platforms

The beta is confirmed for current-generation hardware and PC storefronts:

Platform Beta Access
PlayStation 5 Yes
Xbox Series X|S Yes
PC (Steam) Yes
PC (Battle.net) Yes

Previous-generation consoles, including PlayStation 4, are not supported for this test phase. Although the full game is expected on Nintendo Switch 2, beta availability for that platform has not been confirmed.

During the beta, you can test updated multiplayer systems, including revised movement mechanics and weapon handling changes. The focus remains on competitive modes rather than campaign content.

This testing period serves two purposes. You gain early hands-on experience with maps, loadouts, and gameplay adjustments, while the developers collect performance data and player feedback at scale. That input supports balance updates, bug fixes, and technical improvements before launch.

Participation requires only a pre-order or waiting for the open weekend. Once installed, the beta functions as a standalone client tied to your platform account.

By joining either phase, you preview the direction of Modern Warfare 4’s multiplayer design and evaluate how its mechanical updates perform under live player conditions.
