Fortnite Mercy Staff: How to Get and Use It Effectively

Fortnite’s latest update brings a major Overwatch crossover, adding Mercy’s Caduceus Staff and Tracer’s Pulse Pistols to the loot pool. The Staff stands out because it focuses on support rather than direct damage, giving you a different way to impact matches.

If you prefer helping teammates instead of leading every fight, this item opens new tactical options. You can play a stronger support role, similar to past healing tools, while still staying active in combat.

How You Find the Mercy Caduceus Staff in Fortnite

You can collect the Mercy Caduceus Staff directly from the standard loot pool in Chapter 7 Season 2. The item is not a Mythic, so you do not need to defeat a boss or capture a specific location to unlock it.

Search the same places where you normally gather high‑value gear. Focus on:

  • Regular chests
  • Floor loot spawns
  • Loot caches
  • High-tier loot areas

The staff carries Legendary (Gold) rarity, so you will not see it as often as lower-tier weapons. However, it appears more frequently than many traditional Legendary firearms, especially while the Overwatch collaboration remains active.

You increase your chances by targeting Overwatch-themed chests. These special containers also drop other crossover items, including Tracer’s Pulse Pistols. Landing near areas that feature these themed chests improves your odds of finding the staff early in a match.

Because the item belongs to the active crossover pool, the game distributes it at a reasonable rate. If you open enough high-value containers and stay consistent with chest routes, you will encounter the Mercy Staff during regular play.

How Does the Fortnite Caduceus Staff Work?

Restorative Beam Function

You activate the staff’s main ability by holding the primary fire button. This action projects a steady beam that restores Health and Shields to allies within range.

The staff can deliver up to 300 total HP per player, which exceeds most standard healing items. For comparison:

Item Maximum Healing Affects Multiple Players
Chug Jug 200 No
Caduceus Staff 300 Yes

The healing applies at a rate of 5 HP per second. That pace supports sustained fights, especially in squad engagements where several teammates take damage at once.

You cannot heal indefinitely. The staff has a limited output pool, so you must choose when to apply it. Because it restores both shields and health, you can stabilize teammates without forcing them to consume inventory items.

This group-based healing makes it particularly effective in team modes. You cannot eliminate opponents with the staff, since it functions strictly as a support tool.

Damage Boost Support Mode

When you switch to secondary fire, the staff changes from healing to amplification. Instead of restoring HP, you increase a targeted teammate’s outgoing damage.

This boost strengthens their weapons for a short duration while the beam remains connected. You must maintain line of sight and stay within range to keep the effect active.

The damage increase works best when paired with high-DPS weapons. In coordinated squads, you can focus on empowering a teammate during pushes or defensive holds.

You cannot use this feature in Solo playlists. It only provides value when you have at least one teammate to support.

Aerial Glide and Fall Control

The staff also grants passive aerial movement. When you jump from height or step off a ledge, you deploy wing-like gliders automatically.

Instead of dropping quickly, you descend in a controlled glide. This effect prevents fall damage, allowing you to reposition safely from elevated terrain.

You still move at a slow glide speed. Enemies can track and hit you while you float, especially with hitscan weapons.

To gain meaningful height, you often need mobility items such as Shockwave Grenades. The glide works best for controlled repositioning rather than aggressive aerial plays.
