Fortnite is offline, this is what we know so far

Fortnite is offline again just like it was two years ago. This happened following the end of Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 8. Why is Fortnite offline? And how long will it last? We try to answer these two questions.

Fortnite is offline because the end of Fortnite Chapter 2, after which we can expect Fortnite Chapter 3. According to the current Forntite Chapter 2 Season 8 Battle Pass, that will last until Monday, December 6. So it is expected that players will not be able to play Fortnite tomorrow (Sunday, December 5). Fortnite is therefore expected to be unplayable for a 36-hour period.

Fortnite back online

As of last night, Fortnite is fully back online. In addition to a new Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 1 Battle Pass, there are also a lot of changes in Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 1. The Fortnite map has received a huge makeover and there are new Fortnite weapons.

Patching takes time

Besides the fact that Fortnite developer Epic Games obviously wants to create some hype for the third chapter of the popular Battle Royale game, there is also another compelling reason; updating and patching the servers takes time. Especially huge updates are not implemented 1,2,3. In addition, many things can go wrong during a patch, including the occurrence of bugs. And of course nobody wants that. Therefore it takes a lot of time to ensure that an update like this runs smoothly. This is just a bit more exciting than a seasonal update, in which relatively few changes are made.

Marketing

As we stated above, creating hype is a good marketing strategy to attract old players back to the game. It should be obvious that everyone has heard of Fortnite by now, up to our grandparents. Yet the game has become a lot less popular in the past year. By taking the game off the air for a day, there is a lot of talk about Fortnite, and that helps to bring back a lot of old players. After all, everyone is curious to see what Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 1 brings. At least we are.
