European League of Legends competition kicks off today

The European League of Legends competition, also known as the LEC, kicks off today with the 2022 Spring Split. The LEC is the highest-ranking League of Legends competition within Europe and is hugely popular.

This season has seen many interesting and surprising roster moves. For example, ‚Wunder‘ made the move from G2 Esports to arch-rival Fnatic and Team Vitality contracted a whole team of superstars. In addition, many great players have also left the league. Rekkles surprised everyone with his transfer to Karmince Corp, a team in the French league. Also Bwipo, Hans Sama and Inspired will not be seen in the LEC next year, they chose to continue their careers in the American LCS.

First Round

The first week of play in the LEC is a so-called 'super week‘. This means that games will be played on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Normally, the LEC is only seen on Friday and Saturday.

On the first day, MAD Lions and Team Vitality will be kicking off the event. The 2021 champion will face off against Vitality's new super team. According to many analysts, Vitality is the favorite for the title this season. Can MAD Lions show with their new team against Vitality that they are of champion caliber? You'll see today at 6 p.m.

After the first game, it's the turn of Rogue and SK Gaming. Both teams have added some new players to the team and hope to match last year's performance. At 20.00, Excel Esports against G2 Esports is scheduled to play. Excel has a promising team with many young talents. G2 Esports has turned the team around, only Caps and Jankos were retained. Last season was dramatic for the multiple LEC champion and with a new team they are trying to get back on track.

Astralis will take on Misfits on the first day. Both teams have some new players and thus want to try to improve on previous years‘ performances. Misfits has contracted many talents from the regional leagues and hopes to challenge the top teams.

Finally, Fnatic and Team BDS will close the day. Here Adam takes on his old team Fnatic. The new organization has many young talents and the fans are curious to see how the new team performs. Fnatic is one of the favorites for the title so BDS has a big challenge at the beginning of the season.
