ESL opens ‚CS:GO‘ competition for women with prize pool of €500,000

ESL, one of the largest esports tournament organizers in the world, is launching a CS:GO competition for women following their #GGFORALL initiative. In doing so, it aims to contribute to a healthier climate within esports and stop discrimination.

In 2022, two major online seasons are planned for both Europe and North America, each with their own offline finals. In addition, there are so-called ‚cash cups‘, small tournaments where players compete against each other for a smattering of prizes, plus stand-alone tournament in Valencia. The total prize pool is 500,000 euros.

The regional competitions within Europe and North America each have eight teams, of which the three strongest will advance to the offline finals during DreamHack Dallas and DreamHack Winter. In addition, the strongest team from Asia and the one from South America will also get a spot. We will have to wait for a concrete date, but according to ESL, the first competition will start in March and will run until May.

According to Senior Vice President of People and Culture Roberta Hernandez, ESL wants to give women more opportunities to showcase themselves at the highest level. „By giving women infrastructure similar to that of men, we want to generate more visibility and opportunities for women in the esports industry, and give them the opportunity to improve.“
