March 26 brings a major update to Borderlands 4, and you have plenty to look forward to. Gearbox is launching the Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned Story Pack alongside a significant patch that raises the level cap from 50 to 60, giving you more room to grow your Vault Hunter and expand your build options.
While the game faced criticism after its 2025 release, 2026 has focused on steady post-launch support. With a recent Bounty Pack already live and the first full expansion on the way, you can expect March to play a key role in shaping the next phase of your endgame experience.
Borderlands 4 Is Raising the Level Cap for Players
Gearbox will raise the maximum level in Borderlands 4 from 50 to 60 as part of the March 26 major update. You do not need to purchase Story Pack 1 to access the new cap. Every player receives the increase once the update goes live.
You should prepare for a sizable download. The update requires roughly 20GB of free storage space, so check your system before launch day to avoid delays.
A higher cap gives you ten additional skill points to refine your build. You can push deeper into existing skill trees, strengthen endgame loadouts, and re-farm gear to match the new maximum level. As with previous entries in the series, raising the cap will shift the gear chase and reshape build priorities.
Gearbox has not yet released the full patch notes. You will need to wait until closer to launch for detailed balance changes, loot adjustments, or mechanical updates included in the patch.
The 2026 roadmap outlines what follows. In Q2, you will see a second raid boss join the game alongside Bloomreaper the Invincible, plus Bounty Pack 3 and a free Takedown event.
Q3 expands the lineup further:
- Two additional paid Bounty Packs
- Story Pack 2
- A second DLC Vault Hunter
Gearbox has confirmed the new character is in development but has not shared abilities or playstyle details. You can expect more information later in the year as content rolls out.
