Arc Raiders Matchmaking System Explained

You have likely seen the debate around ARC Raiders matchmaking, especially as players questioned how the system builds lobbies and whether it favors certain playstyles. Embark Studios has now stepped in to clarify how matchmaking actually works, what factors it considers, and where its limits lie.

As the game shifts away from monthly content drops, the studio has begun sharing more details about recent updates and design goals. The new explanation outlines how fairness, squad size, and player behavior shape your experience without creating guaranteed “safe” lobbies or fully predictable outcomes.

Embark Explains How ARC Raiders Builds Its Lobbies

Embark Studios addressed ongoing questions about how matchmaking functions in ARC Raiders, confirming that the system evaluates player behavior rather than fixed PvE or PvP categories. You do not queue into separate “safe” or “hostile” servers. Instead, the game reviews how you interact with other Raiders over time and adjusts your likely lobby placement accordingly.

The studio acknowledged two specific problems players raised and outlined changes in progress:

  • Self-defense tracking: The system previously treated initiating combat and defending yourself as the same action. Both players could receive similar PvP weight. An update will separate aggression from retaliation so your defensive actions no longer carry the same impact as starting a fight.
  • Low-interaction rounds: Matches where you spawn, extract quickly, avoid encounters, or surrender had too much influence on your behavioral profile. Embark plans to reduce the weight of those sessions.

These adjustments refine how your playstyle gets measured without shifting to a simple win/loss formula.

For reference, ARC Raiders launched on October 30, 2025 across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, with full cross-play and cross-save support through Embark ID. It carries a Teen rating and blends extraction, third-person shooting, and survival systems in both solo and online multiplayer modes.
