Over the past decade, you have likely seen tabletop RPG actual play series move from niche streams to mainstream entertainment. Shows led by professional voice actors helped drive that shift, and audience interest surged during the COVID-19 lockdowns as more players looked for ways to stay connected through shared storytelling.
Dungeons & Dragons has experimented with its own official productions before, though not all of them endured. Now, as actual play remains a steady force in online gaming culture, you can see how the format continues to shape the way audiences engage with tabletop adventures.
Official D&D Dungeon Masters Actual Play Series Begins April 22
Wizards of the Coast launches its official Dungeons & Dragons actual play show, Dungeon Masters, on April 22 at 6:30 PM PT with a two-episode premiere on YouTube. New episodes stream weekly on Wednesdays at the same time.
The first campaign, Ashes of the Black Rose, places four characters inside the Ravenloft Domain of Dread. They must survive a realm controlled by the death knight Lord Soth and find a path out of a collapsing, hostile setting.
This storyline draws from Ravenloft: The Horrors Within, a new sourcebook scheduled for release on June 16. Several cast members use subclasses introduced in that book, giving you an early look at material before it reaches tables worldwide.
