Valorant Not Opening Fix

Valorant has become one of the leading competitive shooters in modern gaming, attracting millions of players each day. Its blend of tactical gunplay and character abilities continues to draw both casual players and dedicated esports fans worldwide. With such a large and active community, technical issues are inevitable as players interact with different system configurations and software environments.

Among the most common problems is Valorant failing to launch properly through the Riot Client, sometimes showing no sign of starting at all. When this happens, identifying the cause can be difficult without clear error messages. Understanding how to troubleshoot these startup issues helps players restore access quickly and keep their experience uninterrupted.

End Frozen Riot or Valorant Tasks

If the game fails to start, it may still be running silently in the background. Open Task Manager with Ctrl + Shift + Esc. In the Processes tab, locate and End Task for any entries named VALORANTRiot Client, or Vanguard. Then relaunch the game.

Confirm the Vanguard (VGC) Service Is Active

Valorant depends on the Vanguard (VGC) service to start correctly.
To check its status:

  1. Press Windows + S, type Services, and open it.
  2. Locate VGC, right‑click, and select Properties.
  3. Set Startup type to Automatic, click Start, then choose Apply → OK.

Next, open System Configuration (msconfig), go to the Services tab, ensure VGC is checked, and restart the computer before launching Valorant again.

Clear Riot Client Cache

A damaged configuration file can stop the Riot Client from launching correctly.
To refresh it:

  1. Press Windows + R, type %%appdata%%, and select OK.
  2. In the address bar, choose AppData → Local.
  3. Navigate to Riot Games → Riot Client → Data.
  4. Remove cache files such as RiotClientPrivateSettings.yaml.
  5. Restart the client to rebuild new settings automatically.

Fix Compatibility / Admin Settings

Incorrect compatibility or admin settings may prevent Valorant from starting.
Follow these steps to correct them:

  1. Right‑click the Valorant shortcut, choose Properties, then open the Compatibility tab.
  2. Clear these options:
    • Run this program as an administrator
    • Any unneeded Windows 7/8 compatibility modes
  3. Select Apply, then OK, and relaunch the game.

Disable Conflicting Applications and Overlays

Some background tools interfere with Valorant’s startup and should be turned off temporarily. Disable any extra firewalls such as COMODO, and pause or remove Citrix Workspace if it launches automatically. Also close overlays or performance monitors like MSI AfterburnerRivaTuner, or Discord and GeForce overlays.
After making these adjustments, restart the computer and try running Valorant again. If issues remain, repair or reinstall the Riot Client.
