This Steam Sale will no longer be held

The Steam Sale is a household name among PC gamers. The discounts are often high, with the result that those who can't hold back soon have quite a backlog. There is only one recurring Steam Sale that Valve is dropping in the future.

For years, Valve has held four major seasonal sales: Summer, Fall, Winter and Lunar New Year (also known as Chinese New Year). One of these is an odd one out. Valve is therefore discontinuing the Lunar New Year sale, starting in 2023.

But that doesn't mean the number of sales will decrease: Lunar New Year will be replaced by a Spring Sale. This will then begin around the middle of March. That has some big advantages for both customers and publishers, according to Valve.

Indeed, from publishers, Valve was often told that the Lunar New Year Sale falls too close to the Winter Sale. In fact, the Winter Sale usually runs from just before Christmas until a little past New Year's. Lunar New Year also follows in January, so a Spring Sale in March creates a bit more distance between two sales, making them less intertwined for both publishers and customers.

When is the next Steam Sale?

With the announcement of the Spring Sale, Valve also immediately announced the dates of several upcoming sales. The next is the Autumn Sale from Nov. 22 to 29. The Winter Sale is from December 22 to January 5, after which the brand new Spring Sale runs from March 16 to 23.
