These Rocket League crossovers are what we're looking forward to
Rocket League is wildly popular and that hasn't gone unnoticed by the ties in Hollywood. Since its release in 2016, Rocket League has had collaborations with the likes of Ghost Busters, Mad Max, The Fast and The Furious, Jurassic Park, Lamborghini, Formula 1 and Batman. As far as we are concerned, it does not stop there, so we give Psyonix some tips for fat crossovers that will bring in a lot of money.
Transformers – Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Megatron
The Transformers movies are classics. Despite the fact that they are not always great, thanks for that Michael Bay, everyone knows Optimus Prime, the red leader of the Transformers. This fire engine is not the only one when it comes to recognition. Think also of Bumblebee, Grimlock or Megatron, for example. Plenty of cool designs to bring to Rocket League, even if they can't transform into their robot form.
There are also plenty of options for cool events. For example, think of a gamemode where one team plays Transformers and the other team plays Decepticons and the goal is to wipe out the opponent. Make it happen Psyonix!
Scooby Doo – Mystery Machine
One of the most iconic cartoons ever, Scooby Doo, would be a perfect addition to the Rocket League roster. Shaggy, Scooby, Daphne, Velma and Fred have been driving around in their special Mystery Machine solving the craziest mysteries for decades. Time to bring this unique minivan to Rocket League.
The Mystery Machine would be perfect for Psyonix's auto-footballer for several reasons. First, it's a van that everyone knows or has at least seen at some point. Also, its shape is very similar to an existing car, namely the Merc, so there is no need to mess around with hitboxes. Scooby Doo is also perfect for Halloween, so it is certainly suitable for an event to make this collaboration a reality.
Spongebob – Boatmobile
Ah Spongebob, who didn't grow up with it? The jolly yellow sponge is a giant good neighbor (right Octo?), a master of karate, a five-star hamburger baker and the best jellyfish catcher in Bikinibroek. What he's not so good at is driving a car… or yes a boatmobile. Because even after 248 episodes, he still hasn't gotten his boating license.
You know who might be good at driving a boatmobile? Possibly you. Spongebob's boatmobile is iconic and would be perfect for a game like Rocket League. Plus, with Aquadome, you already have the perfect environment to earn your boating license.
Cars – Lightning McQueen
This is the most obvious collaboration for Rocket League that can be imagined and it is therefore quite strange that it has not been done yet; Cars. The Pixar film series is hugely popular. Especially for kids, this would be a gigantic fun collaboration.
How big is the chance that this will ever happen? Extremely small. Pixar is part of Disney and they are not known for the collaborations they do with third parties. Nevertheless, we remain hopeful that we will soon be able to make aerials with Lightning McQueen.
Flintstones – The Flintmobile
In 1960, the world was introduced to the prehistoric Flintstones. Despite being a prehistoric family, many modern aspects returned (for the time). Main character Fred Flintstone had to go to work, his wife Wilma Flintstone took care of the household. They had two pets, namely Dino and Baby Puss and also had a car. Yep, you read that right a prehistoric family with some kind of ancient car.
The chances of the Flintmobile ever coming to Rocket League are slim. The last time something new from the Flintstones appeared was in 2001. So it's a franchise that's been asleep for twenty years. As such, there's no real reason to lend their car to Rocket League. As unfortunate as we find that to be.
Dune – Spice Harvester
This series is perhaps less known, but certainly not less fat. Dune is in fact one of the leading sci-fi franchises ever. Frank Herbert released the first book of the series in 1965 and these books are about a fantasy war on the distant planet Arrakis. An important part of the series were the vehicles, including the various baby carriages and cars that tore across the red sands of Arrakis.
The Sand Trackers and the Sand Crawlers are very cool, but what might be even fancier are the iconic Spice Harvesters. Machines used to filter the valuable resource Spice from the air. We would happily drive around in a (modified) miniature version of that beast.
