Housemarque has shared new details about Saros, outlining a range of gameplay modifiers and accessibility settings that let you tailor the experience to your preferences. You can expect flexible options that adjust challenge and support different playstyles, continuing the studio’s focus on player customization.

On PS5, you will play at 60 FPS with enhanced visuals on PS5 Pro, including sharper image quality and refined graphical details. You also benefit from Tempest 3D AudioTech and DualSense adaptive triggers, which add greater immersion during combat and exploration.

Saros Unveils Customizable Gameplay Modifiers

Housemarque expands on Saros’ latest trailer by pairing narrative hints with mechanical depth. You see Stack, portrayed by Keone Young, painting a vast mural shaped by visions from Carcosa. The imagery shifts between the Cathedral and fast, precise combat sequences that highlight the studio’s signature “bullet ballet” style.

The trailer also hints at wider mysteries. A brief glimpse of a London alley and a hotel corridor suggests that the story stretches beyond a single setting.

Combat remains central to your experience. Arjun gains access to new tools, including the Chakram and the Illumine Beam power weapon, each designed to support different approaches during high-pressure encounters. Weapons appear in multiple archetypes and roll with cycle-based variations, so you adapt your tactics each run.

Alongside these additions, Saros introduces the Carcosan Modifiers system. You use it to tune difficulty before or during your progression, adjusting how forgiving or demanding each cycle feels. This system works in parallel with the Armor Matrix, which grants permanent upgrades after death and reinforces long-term growth.

Carcosan Modifiers fall into two broad categories:

Modifier Type Function
Protection Reduces challenge or strengthens survivability
Trial Increases difficulty by limiting advantages

Protection options can directly enhance your effectiveness. Examples include:

  • Damage Enhancement – increases the damage you deal to enemies.
  • Shield Power Enhancement – removes energy drain from your Soltari Shield.
  • Overlord Restoration – restores full armor before boss encounters.

Trial modifiers raise the stakes and demand tighter execution. Confirmed examples include:

  • Growth Incapacitor – removes your automatic second-chance revive during a run.
  • Weapon Decay – introduces durability loss the more you use a weapon.
  • Growth Incapacitor II – disables all Armor Matrix upgrades.

You decide how these elements combine, creating a balance between accessibility and intensity.

Accessibility features also expand beyond previous Housemarque titles. You can enable colorblind support to clearly distinguish between Normal, Corrupted, and Nova projectiles during combat. The game also supports controller remapping and dialogue-focused options, with additional features planned for further detail.

Saros launches on April 30, 2026, for PlayStation 5, with enhancements for PS5 Pro. It carries a Teen rating from the ESRB and is developed by Housemarque and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment.
