Pokémon Legends: Z-A launches Ranked Battle Season 13 on June 25, closing out a brief competitive stretch that began on June 4. The game stands out as one of the series’ most experimental entries, removing traditional abilities, overhauling move pools, and replacing classic turn-based combat with real-time battles that feature cooldowns and four-player free-for-all matches.
You experience a format that splits opinion among longtime fans while drawing interest from newcomers who prefer faster-paced encounters. Ranked Battles play a central role in that shift, as each season adjusts the competitive landscape and refreshes the available rewards, and Season 13 continues that cycle with another meta update and new incentives to compete.
Season 13 Will Reshape Pokemon Legends: Z-A on June 25
Season 12 closes on June 24, 2026 at 6:59 PM PDT / 9:59 PM ET. Just a few hours later, Season 13 begins at 11:00 PM PDT on June 24 / 2:00 AM ET on June 25. The short turnaround means you move directly into a very different competitive environment.
Season 12 allowed broad team freedom, including up to two restricted choices. Season 13 removes that structure entirely. You can no longer use any Legendary or Mythical Pokémon in Ranked Battles.
That single rule dramatically shifts team building. Pokémon that previously shaped the meta—such as Kyogre, Groudon, and Xerneas—no longer define matchups. You must now rely on standard roster depth, Mega Evolution synergy, and tighter strategic planning instead of raw restricted power.
Allowed Pokemon for Season 13 Ranked Play
Season 13 limits you to specific Pokédex ranges while banning all Legendary and Mythical entries.
Eligible Pokédex Numbers
| Pokédex | Allowed Range |
|---|---|
| Lumiose Pokédex | #001–227 |
| Hyperspace Pokédex | #001–112 |
Any Lumiose entries from #228–232 are not permitted. Hyperspace entries from #113–132 are also excluded.
Even if a Legendary or Mythical Pokémon falls within a normally usable range, you cannot register it. This includes well-known restricted threats such as:
- Mewtwo
- Xerneas
- Yveltal
- Zygarde
- Kyogre
- Groudon
- Rayquaza
Additional Mythicals and event-based Pokémon across both Pokédex lists are also barred.
Without dominant restricted cores, you will see more varied team compositions. Mega Evolutions remain central, but you must support them with balanced partners rather than Legendary anchors.
June 25 is the Start of a New Era in Pokemon Legends: Z-A
June 25 resets the competitive field in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. You move into a new Ranked Battle season with updated rules and a fresh ladder to climb.
Past seasons have removed Legendary and Mythical Pokémon before, but the format can still shift in meaningful ways. Season 8 proved that when it limited play to Pokémon capable of Mega Evolution, changing team building from the ground up.
You now face another rules refresh, even without new Mega Stones or major roster additions. That change alone forces you to rethink strategies and test different cores.
What this shift means for you:
- Rebuild teams around the current legality list
- Adjust to updated tier rewards and matchmaking
- Experiment with battle mechanics in a new context
You can also explore options introduced in other formats, including Pokémon available under Regulation M-B such as Mega Staraptor and Mega Malamar. If you compete consistently, this reset offers a clear point to refine your approach and push for higher ranks under a different competitive structure.
