Spectating in Fortnite allows players to observe live matches and gain insights into gameplay without directly participating. Players can watch others in action through two main options: elimination spectate and lobby spectate.
Elimination spectate activates automatically after a player is defeated in a match. Instead of exiting to the lobby, selecting the Spectate option enables immediate viewing of ongoing gameplay. The viewer can move between participants using the Next Player and Previous Player controls. This setup displays useful details such as weapon loadouts, materials, and positioning decisions. Lobby spectate works differently and is designed for watching friends’ matches. After joining a friend’s party, the spectator waits until the friend enters a live game. This restriction helps maintain fair play and prevents sharing of competitive information.
