Gorgon's Grasp Medusa in Dota 2 7.37

In the world of Dota 2, Medusa has long held the reputation of being one of the game’s most formidable carries. Known for her ability to withstand and counter multiple adversaries single-handedly, she embodies resilience and strength on the battlefield.

Despite her formidable late-game prowess, Medusa has faced considerable setbacks due to several nerfs over the years, impacting her early game significantly. The upcoming 7.37 update promises a revitalization for the hero, introducing a new ability that aims to enhance her effectiveness during the mid-game and in team fights.

What is Gorgon’s Grasp in Dota 2?

Gorgon’s Grasp is a newly introduced basic ability for Medusa in Dota 2. Unlike her previous abilities, it does not need Mana Shield to be leveled up, as that is now a passive feature for Medusa.

Medusa launches a series of arrows into the air, which then descend in three increasing sizes of groupings. Enemies hit by any of these groupings experience significant effects:

  • Physical Damage: 30/70/110/150 per grouping
  • Rooted State: Enemies cannot move and take additional 100 physical damage per second for 0.8/1.2/1.6/2 seconds

Ability Details

  • Initial Radius: 150
  • Radius Growth: 50
  • Cast Range: 625
  • Mana Cost: 40/60/80/100
  • Cooldown: 30/27/24/21 seconds

Gorgon’s Grasp allows Medusa to be much more involved during the mid-game phase by offering substantial physical damage and the ability to root enemies in place. This immobilization provides Medusa's team with a tactical edge, controlling the battlefield by limiting enemy movement.

Medusa has always excelled in the very late game, especially when equipped with a full set of items. Her arsenal, including her Aghanim’s and Shard upgrades, provides various ways to stun and control enemies. Her ultimate, Stone Gaze, petrifies enemies that look at her, increasing the physical damage they receive while immobilized.

The introduction of Gorgon’s Grasp enhances Medusa’s versatility, making her more effective throughout different stages of the game while maintaining her feared late-game presence.

Medusa: The New Superstar?

Medusa’s popularity was in the doldrums before the recent patch, with a pick rate languishing at a mere 4%. Players shied away from choosing Medusa due to her feeble starting HP, making her a liability in the early stages of the game. The initial phase with Medusa often revolved around mere survival, as her contribution to early and mid-game engagements was negligible.

The tide seems to be turning with the release of the 7.37 patch. Medusa has experienced a noticeable surge in her pick rate, clearly indicating a renewed interest from the Dota 2 community. The introduction of her new ability, Gorgon's Grasp, might be a significant factor in this revival.

The initial boost in pick rate has been accompanied by an increase in her win-rate as well. Although it's still early, the community is eagerly observing how this change will influence the broader game meta. The hero, largely unchanged in her core mechanics for almost a decade, finally sees a glimmer of transformation and potential resurgence among players.
