Preload Start Date and Early Access Window
You can begin downloading Forza Horizon 6 as of May 13, 2026, with some regions gaining access late on May 12. Playground Games opened the preload window about a week before launch to give you enough time to install the full game.
The standard edition releases globally on May 19, 2026.
If you own the Premium Edition, you can start playing on May 15, four days ahead of the general release.
Eligibility for Pre-Download
You can preload the game only if you meet one of the following conditions:
- You purchased a Founder’s Edition (Standard, Deluxe, or Premium).
- You subscribe to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
- You subscribe to PC Game Pass.
If you bought a physical copy, you can still install the game early through the Xbox mobile app by selecting the download option for your console.
If you previously installed a small placeholder file, you must download the full game package before launch.
Required Storage Space by Platform
You need a significant amount of free storage before starting the download. File sizes vary by platform and storefront.

On PC, the game requires an SSD. A traditional hard drive does not meet the installation requirements.
Some storefront listings show minor differences in file size, but you should plan for at least 160 GB of available space on PC to avoid issues.
PlayStation 5 Release Status
The game does not launch on PS5 on May 19.
Playground Games confirmed that a PlayStation 5 version is in development, with a release planned later in 2026. No specific date has been announced.
Once available, cross-save support will function between Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, Steam, and PS5, allowing you to carry progress across platforms tied to your account.
Steam Deck and Handheld PC Compatibility
You can play Forza Horizon 6 on Steam Deck at launch. The title is officially verified for Valve’s handheld system.
The game also supports devices such as the ROG Ally and ROG Ally X.
On PC, you get expanded graphics settings and improved handheld optimization compared to earlier entries in the series. Cross-save works across supported PC platforms, including SteamOS-based systems.
Steps to Begin Downloading
You can start the preload using the method that matches your platform:
On Steam (PC)
- Open the Steam client.
- Go to the Forza Horizon 6 store page.
- Select the preload option if you have already purchased the game.
On Xbox Series X|S
- Open the Xbox Store.
- Confirm your purchase or active Game Pass subscription.
- Choose the preload/download option and select your storage drive.
Using the Xbox Mobile App (Physical Copy Owners)
- Open the Xbox app on your phone.
- Find Forza Horizon 6.
- Tap Download to Console.
There is no preload option for PS5 yet because the PlayStation version does not have a release date.
