Fortnite plans to adjust its in-game economy, including changes to V-Bucks pricing and Battle Pass rewards. While you can play the game for free without any competitive disadvantage, many players rely on V-Bucks to unlock cosmetics and access seasonal passes packed with challenges and exclusive items.
Epic Games has revised V-Bucks policies several times over the years, raising prices in multiple regions and modifying how you earn rewards. Previous updates removed certain free login bonuses for some players and increased the Battle Pass cost, decisions that sparked backlash even as the company introduced alternative reward systems to balance the shift.
Fortnite Reduces V-Bucks in Bundles and Lowers Battle Pass Earnings
Epic Games is changing how much in-game currency you receive when you buy V-Bucks. Instead of raising the cash price of bundles, the company is decreasing the number of V-Bucks included in each pack. You now get fewer V-Bucks for the same dollar amount.
In previous adjustments, Epic modified regional pricing while keeping bundle quantities steady. This time, it directly cuts the currency amounts tied to each price tier. That shift affects standard bundles, the Battle Pass, and subscription rewards.
Updated V-Bucks Bundle Amounts
The table below shows how bundle values change once the update takes effect:
| Price (USD) | V-Bucks Before | V-Bucks After |
|---|---|---|
| $8.99 | 1,000 | 800 |
| $22.99 | 2,800 | 2,400 |
| $36.99 | 5,000 | 4,500 |
| $89.99 | 13,500 | 12,500 |
The entry-level $8.99 bundle now grants 800 V-Bucks instead of 1,000. Larger bundles also lose between 400 and 1,000 V-Bucks depending on the tier.
You still pay the same real-world price at checkout. The difference appears in the reduced currency credited to your account.
Battle Pass Cost and Reward Changes
Epic also revised the standard Battle Pass structure. The pass now costs 800 V-Bucks, down from 1,000.
At first glance, that lower price may look like a discount. However, you can now earn only 800 V-Bucks by completing it.
Previously, you could unlock up to 1,500 V-Bucks through progression. That system allowed you to recover your initial 1,000 V-Bucks and gain extra currency beyond the purchase price.
Under the new structure:
- You spend 800 V-Bucks.
- You can earn back 800 V-Bucks.
- You do not earn surplus currency.
For the first time, the pass no longer generates additional V-Bucks beyond what you invested. If you want extra currency for future cosmetics, you must purchase another bundle.
Changes to Other Paid Passes
Epic adjusted several additional passes to align with the new pricing model.
- OG Pass: Reduced from 1,000 to 800 V-Bucks.
- Music Pass: Reduced from 1,400 to 1,200 V-Bucks.
- LEGO Pass: Reduced from 1,400 to 1,200 V-Bucks.
These price drops reflect the lower currency distribution across bundles. While the V-Bucks requirement decreases, you now obtain fewer V-Bucks per dollar spent, which offsets the apparent discount.
Fortnite Crew Subscription Adjustment
If you subscribe to Fortnite Crew, you also face reduced monthly currency rewards. The membership previously granted 1,000 V-Bucks per month.
It now provides 800 V-Bucks per month instead.
You still receive access to included passes and other membership perks. However, your recurring currency total drops by 200 V-Bucks each billing cycle.
If you rely on Crew to fund cosmetic purchases over time, this change directly lowers your monthly balance growth.
“Exact Amount” Purchase Option Price Increase
The “exact amount” feature allowed you to buy a precise number of V-Bucks rather than rounding up to a bundle. Many players used it to cover small currency gaps.
Under the previous setup, you could purchase 50 V-Bucks for $0.50. The updated structure raises that price to $0.99 for 50 V-Bucks.
That nearly doubles the cost per 50 V-Bucks. The feature remains available, but it no longer offers the same proportional value.
If you only need a small top-up to afford an item, you now pay more to bridge that difference.
Impact on Your Spending Strategy
These adjustments change how you plan cosmetic purchases and seasonal participation.
You can no longer rely on the Battle Pass to generate extra V-Bucks beyond your initial investment. If you skip a season or spend currency elsewhere, you must buy another bundle to re-enter the cycle.
The reduced bundle quantities also affect long-term budgeting. For example:
- Two $8.99 purchases previously delivered 2,000 V-Bucks.
- The same two purchases now deliver 1,600 V-Bucks.
That 400 V-Bucks difference equals half of a Battle Pass under the new system.
If you frequently buy premium skins, crossover cosmetics, or limited-time items, you may notice the reduced value more quickly. The structure encourages more direct purchases rather than allowing players to accumulate surplus currency through gameplay alone.
Why Epic Is Making These Changes
Epic attributes the shift to increased operational expenses tied to maintaining and expanding Fortnite. Running a live service game across multiple platforms requires server infrastructure, content development, and ongoing support.
Instead of raising sticker prices, the company chose to adjust currency distribution. From a purchasing standpoint, you still see familiar dollar amounts, but you receive less in-game value.
This approach keeps advertised prices stable while modifying the effective exchange rate between real currency and V-Bucks.
When Do the New V-Bucks Rules Take Effect in Fortnite?
The revised bundle amounts and pass rewards begin on March 19, 2026, alongside the launch of Chapter 7 Season 2.
From that date forward:
- All listed bundle tiers grant reduced V-Bucks.
- The standard Battle Pass costs 800 V-Bucks and returns up to 800.
- Other passes reflect their new pricing.
- Fortnite Crew grants 800 V-Bucks monthly.
- The exact-amount option charges $0.99 for 50 V-Bucks.
If you plan to purchase V-Bucks under the previous structure, you must do so before March 19, 2026. After the seasonal update goes live, the new quantities apply across supported platforms.
Fortnite remains available on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, PC, and mobile platforms that support the game, with cross-platform play enabled. These V-Bucks adjustments apply consistently regardless of where you log in.
