A recent update from Nvidia may have inadvertently disclosed that Final Fantasy 16 is on the verge of being released for PC. Although it had been known for some time that Square Enix was working on this port, specific timing remained uncertain.

Final Fantasy 16 made its initial debut in June 2023 as a timed exclusive for PlayStation 5. This highly awaited title garnered predominantly favorable reviews, showcasing impressive graphics and engaging Eikon battles reminiscent of giant monsters. Its initial success was echoed in commercial terms, achieving record sales for a PS5 game in Japan and exceeding 3 million units sold globally. Despite Square Enix reporting some financial losses in subsequent quarters, they have maintained that the game's performance aligns with their expectations.

In September 2023, Square Enix confirmed the active development of Final Fantasy 16 for PC, although they did not specify a timeline for its release. Many anticipated that the PC version would launch after June 2024, following the expiration of the PS5 exclusivity period. Recent findings from a Reddit user suggested the emergence of a game-ready profile for Final Fantasy 16 in Nvidia’s latest driver version 560.81, typically indicating that a game is close to being ready for release.

While constrained by the timed exclusivity with the PS5, the development team has been relatively transparent about the PC version's progress. Producer Naoki Yoshida indicated in March 2024 that the PC version was nearing completion in its optimization phase, making an imminent release seem quite plausible. Additionally, Yoshida mentioned plans for a playable demo of Final Fantasy 16 on PC, but given the readiness of the port, Square Enix might elect to release the full game directly.

The PC version promises an array of enhancements designed to enhance player experience, including ultra-wide display support, uncapped frame rates exceeding 100fps, tailored mouse and keyboard controls, and optimized code for improved performance.
