Final Fantasy 14 Features Update

Main Points

  • Several quality-of-life updates are currently in development for Final Fantasy 14, including the much-anticipated chat bubbles and a raid strategy planner.
  • Enhancements to the Group Pose feature are also on the horizon, including the ability for Fishers to pose while casting lines.

At a recent PAX West 2024 panel, Kei Odagiri, the lead user interface designer for Final Fantasy 14, shared that features like chat bubbles and a raid strategy planner are still in the works. Odagiri also announced that the Group Pose feature would receive updates in future content releases.

The announcements came amidst various interviews at Gamescom and PAX West, shortly after the release of Patch 7.05. This update for Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail highlighted the first Savage tier of the Arcadion raid series and introduced challenging content such as the Cenote Ja Ja Gural treasure dungeon, which was designed for groups of level 100 players. Additionally, Patch 7.05 included balance adjustments for Jobs like Viper, Monk, and Black Mage.

As Final Fantasy 14 progresses with its future content updates for Dawntrail, several quality-of-life improvements have been confirmed to be in the pipeline. During the panel at PAX West 2024, Odagiri was joined by global community producer Toshio Muroicchi and translator Aimi Tokutake. They covered various aspects of the game's user interface and control schemes. Odagiri also mentioned new tricks for taking better shots in portrait mode, addressing the difficulty of capturing vertical portraits without reducing screen resolution. This feature is expected to be improved in Patch 7.1, enabling Fishers to take a Group Pose while their lines are cast.

Good news came for Final Fantasy 14 players eagerly awaiting the Chat Bubbles feature. Although no release date was provided, Odagiri confirmed that it remains in development and showcased a screenshot displaying different colored letters for each chat type. Players will also have the capability to filter which chats appear as bubbles. Additionally, updates on the Raid Strategy Planner feature were shared, which will allow players to strategize effectively for high-end raids. This planner is expected to be rolled out in upcoming Dawntrail patches.

The efforts to bring these updates coincide with Final Fantasy 14 players celebrating the annual Rising event. The release schedule for these features is yet to be determined, leaving the community in anticipation.
