New Area 99 Map is Coming in Warzone Season 1 Following Black Ops 6's Launch

Area 99, a compelling addition to Warzone, will be introduced in Season 1, immediately following the much-anticipated launch of Black Ops 6. This new map, originally a top-secret government site abandoned in March 1962, serves as the lore-rich birthplace of Nuketown.

  • Cooling Towers
  • Mannequin Assembly
  • Test Site

Treyarch, the developer responsible for the map, has imbued Area 99 with a distinct retrofuturism art style. Players will notice architectural designs and aesthetics reminiscent of 1950s diners and classic media. Adding a whimsical element, an official mascot named „Archie Atom“ can be spotted on various signs and billboards throughout the map.

According to the lore, the map's abandonment in the 60s led to its gradual decay, resulting in persistent radiation leaks. However, the radiation will not pose a significant threat to gameplay, allowing players to explore the map and engage in combat without hindrance.

Area 99's layout is designed to be focused and compact, similar in scale to the popular Rebirth Island map. This size ensures that players will encounter each other quickly, leading to fast-paced and intense battles.

While the exact release date for Warzone Season 1 has not been disclosed, players can expect more information in the coming months. Alongside the Area 99 map, Season 1 will also feature additional content such as Classic Prestige, a Mastery Camo track, Dark Ops Challenges, and more. Additionally, the return of the beloved Verdansk map is slated for spring 2025.
