VALORANT Patch 12.08 reshapes your competitive experience with the launch of Skirmish: Ascension, a new ranked mode built as the next step for Skirmish. This limited-time addition introduces a fresh way to test your skills while competing on its own structured ladder.
The update also adjusts the active map pool, removing Bind from ranked play and bringing Ascent back into rotation. Alongside these changes, you can expect updates to Premier and a range of bug fixes that refine overall gameplay.
VALORANT patch notes 12.08: Map pool rotation and game mode
You will see a map rotation in both Competitive and Deathmatch queues. Bind leaves the active pool, and Ascent takes its place. If you focus on ranked play, you will now prepare for Ascent’s mid control and structured site takes instead of Bind’s teleport-based rotations.
A new limited ranked mode, Skirmish: Ascension, also goes live.
This mode targets players who prefer solo or duo competition. You can queue for 1v1 or 2v2, and each format has its own separate leaderboard. Your progress in one ladder does not affect the other.
You choose from a restricted list of agents, and each agent uses only one ability. Rounds move through predefined weapon stages, which keeps the focus on mechanics and decision-making. As you climb, you unlock cosmetic rewards such as player cards and titles tied to your rank.
Outside of modes and maps, the in-game store adds Kuronami 2.0 on April 29, expanding the earlier Kuronami line with new weapon skins.
Agent balance remains unchanged in this update. You will not see adjustments to Neon, shotguns, or other meta-defining picks in patch 12.08.
Premier Stage Updates and Schedule Changes
Premier Stage V26A3 begins on May 6, and you can queue for matches starting that same day. This stage runs shorter than usual, so you need to plan carefully.
You will compete across six weeks of regular-season play, with matches scheduled every Saturday from May 9 through June 13. Check the in-client calendar to confirm exact start times in your region.
Key format adjustments:
- Regular season reduced to 6 weeks
- Matches remain on Saturdays
- Playoffs now span multiple days
The playoff bracket opens on June 20. If your team advances, you return on June 21 to continue your run.
These changes tighten the competitive window and require consistent performance each week. Review your roster availability early and monitor the client for any updates to match timing or structure.
