Overwatch Season 2 Pre-Download: Start Date and Setup Guide

Overwatch Season 2 launches on April 14 at 11 a.m. PT and introduces a new DPS hero to the roster. You can jump in as soon as the update goes live, but you do not have to wait until launch time to get ready.

Blizzard allows you to pre-download the Season 2 patch so you can play without delay. You can also adjust your settings to automate future updates and keep your game client current.

Download Overwatch Season 2 Early

You can install the Season 2 update ahead of launch through the Battle.net desktop app. This lets you enter the game as soon as the season goes live.

Follow these steps:

  1. Open Battle.net on your PC.
  2. Sign in to your account.
  3. Select Overwatch from your game library.
  4. Click the gear icon next to the Play button.
  5. Choose Check for Updates.
  6. Start the download when prompted.

After the files finish installing, look below the Play button. You should see green text confirming that the pre-release content has downloaded successfully.

Enable Automatic Pre-Load for Overwatch Season 2

Set your client to download Season 2 files before launch so you can jump in without waiting on release day.

Follow these steps in Battle.net:

  1. Click the gear icon next to the Play button.
  2. Open Game Settings.
  3. Select Downloads from the left menu.
  4. Scroll to the Automatic Updates section.
  5. Choose your preferred update option.
  6. Click Done to save changes.

For full pre-load support, select “Apply latest updates and download pre-release content for recently played games.” This setting ensures your system grabs major patches, including new seasonal updates, as soon as they become available.

Once enabled, the launcher handles future Season updates automatically as long as Overwatch remains one of your recently played titles.
