Marathon Schedule: Key Dates and Training Phases

If you have followed Marathon’s return, you have seen Bungie lean heavily on player feedback to shape its direction. After a lengthy delay in 2025, the game resurfaced in 2026 with several community-requested features, including proximity chat, signaling a clear effort to respond to what players want.

You now face another notable adjustment as Bungie changes how limited-time modes and maps—such as Ranked and Cryo Archive—rotate in and out of availability. The update aims to prevent scheduling overlaps that frustrated players and to create a smoother experience as the studio continues refining the game with community input in mind.

Marathon Updates Ranked and Cryo Archive Rotation

Bungie has adjusted how you access Marathon’s Ranked mode and the Cryo Archive map. The two activities no longer run at the same time, which removes the need to choose between competitive progression and limited-time exploration.

The new structure rotates each mode on a fixed cadence. For this cycle, Cryo Archive opens on Thursday, March 26 at 10 a.m. PT and remains active until Sunday, March 29 at 10 a.m. PT. Once it closes, Ranked activates immediately and continues through Thursday, April 2 at 10 a.m. PT.

You can expect this alternating pattern to continue going forward. One mode will always be available while the other rests, creating a predictable weekly rhythm.

Schedule Overview

Mode Start Time (PT) End Time (PT)
Cryo Archive Thu, Mar 26 – 10 a.m. Sun, Mar 29 – 10 a.m.
Ranked Sun, Mar 29 – 10 a.m. Thu, Apr 2 – 10 a.m.

This change responds directly to player feedback about overlapping endgame content. You now gain clearer planning windows for climbing the ladder or focusing on map-specific runs without splitting your time.

Bungie continues to refine other parts of the experience as well. A limited-time Duos playlist is currently in testing, giving you a two-player option that was not available at launch.

The Duos test began on the Perimeter map and later expanded to Dire Marsh. Bungie has not confirmed whether testing will extend to Outpost or how long the playlist will remain active.

You can participate in these test sessions while they are live to help shape future updates. The studio has signaled that player participation influences which features become permanent additions.
