You will notice a subtle change to Sage in VALORANT. Her in-game model is receiving a small update that aligns her appearance with the direction of the game’s expanding story.
This marks her first visual adjustment since her 2020 debut. As the lore develops, you can see how Riot is refining her design to better reflect her evolving role within the VALORANT universe.
Is Sage Close to Death in VALORANT’s Story?
You can see clear signs that Sage’s power comes with consequences. As the only agent who can bring someone back from death, she constantly pushes her body beyond safe limits. Each resurrection drains her, and that strain has started to show in recent cinematics.
In the 2026 seasonal cinematic, you watch her collapse into a fragile state after reviving Killjoy. She rests inside a sealed green chamber while Viper approaches and places a hand against the glass.
| Key Detail | What You See | What It Suggests |
|---|---|---|
| Physical fatigue | Sage appears weak and unsteady | Her abilities are wearing her down |
| Green containment unit | She remains isolated | Recovery requires intervention |
| Viper’s reaction | Quiet grief and regret | A long personal history between them |
Their connection predates the VALORANT Protocol, which makes the moment more personal.
In the Miks trailer, you notice crystallization spreading as she studies her reflection. The new agent’s restorative abilities hint at a way to slow the damage. By the final scene, her expression softens, suggesting stabilization rather than imminent death.
Sage in-game model update
Riot Games has adjusted Sage’s in-game appearance to reflect the physical strain tied to her continued use of resurrection powers. You now see visible crystal formations extending across her hands and partially along her face, signaling the toll her abilities take over time.
Her updated player icon also shows a faint crystal mark on her left cheek, aligning her profile image with the changes visible in matches and agent select. These visual revisions do not alter her abilities, stats, or role in any mode.
The update focuses purely on narrative consistency. By adjusting her character model, the developers connect in-game visuals more closely to the ongoing story without affecting balance or performance.
Sage originally launched during the June 2020 beta alongside Agents such as Brimstone, Viper, Omen, Cypher, Sova, Phoenix, Raze, Breach, and Jett. This marks her first significant visual refresh since release.
Update rollout date
You can see the revised Sage model starting March 18, 2026. The changes arrive as part of Patch 12.05, which also introduces Season 2026 Act 2 content.
This patch includes the new Agent Miks, interface adjustments to ally targeting, and additional gameplay updates. Riot Games has not confirmed whether other Agents will receive similar lore-driven visual revisions in future patches.
