You may not have seen it in the patch notes, but Dust2 has changed in a meaningful way. Valve adjusted the Xbox position on Mid in a recent CS2 update without calling attention to it, and that shift affects how you approach mid control.
If you rely on consistent utility lineups or structured mid takes, this update directly impacts your setup. Even small map tweaks can alter smoke trajectories, player movement, and early-round timings on one of Counter-Strike’s most played maps.
Valve adjusts Xbox height on Dust2 in latest update
Valve replaced the classic Xbox prop in Mid with a new stack of crates and removed the green tarp that previously covered it. The visual model now looks cleaner and more open, especially with a visible gap between the boxes.
Despite how it appears, you still cannot stand inside that gap. The collision remains unchanged, so movement options stay consistent with the previous version.
The key difference affects vertical positioning. The updated crate stack slightly alters Xbox’s height, which changes how you interact with Short control.
- Crouch climbing now keeps you hidden from Short
- You no longer need to angle your view downward to avoid early detection
- Mid-to-Short timing becomes less punishing for attackers
Before this adjustment, players often looked down while mounting Xbox to prevent exposure from Catwalk. Now, you can climb in a crouched position without being visible from that angle, simplifying the mechanic and reducing execution risk.
Interestingly, the official patch notes barely reference Dust2, mentioning only a minor fix near Long doors. The Mid change arrived without direct documentation, even though it affects how you approach one of the map’s most contested areas.
