Bungie has rolled out another update for Marathon, continuing its steady stream of live changes as Season 1 moves into its latter half. If you rely on the WSTR combat shotgun, you will notice a clear shift in its performance, as the studio has reduced its damage and adjusted long-range slug effectiveness to curb its dominance. The weapon no longer drops higher-tier shields in two shots, and further balance tweaks remain under review.
While this patch is smaller than the recent midseason update, it still makes meaningful adjustments. You will see increased daily stock limits for certain Sponsored Kits in the Armory, larger stack sizes for key consumables, and higher drop rates for standard kits. These changes follow broader efforts to refine balance, encourage cooperation through new systems like the C.A.R.R.I. Protocol, and respond directly to player feedback as Bungie continues long-term support for the game.
Marathon Update 1.0.6.1 Patch Notes
Item Economy Adjustments
You can now access higher daily purchase limits for Enhanced (green) and Deluxe (blue) Sponsored Kits in the Armory. This change gives you more flexibility when preparing for multiple runs in a single day.
Depleted Patch Kits and Depleted Shield Charges now stack up to 6 items per slot, instead of 3. Standard rarity Sponsored Kits also ship with stacks of 6 by default.
Recruits drop Depleted Patch Kits and Shield Charges more frequently. You should see more consistent sustain items during early encounters.
Combat Changes
Developers included previously announced tuning for the WSTR as part of this update. These changes focus on reducing extreme outcomes in firefights.
The adjustments aim to keep engagements consistent while a broader balance pass remains in development.
Weapon Fixes and Tuning
Several weapon behaviors now function more reliably.
- WSTR Combat Shotgun + MIPS Slug Converter Mod
- Reduced long-range slug effectiveness.
- Adjusted performance to match recent overall damage reductions.
- Targeted extreme long-distance eliminations that exceeded intended limits.
- V85 Circuit Breaker
- Fixed a bug where firing immediately after a fully charged shot displayed impact effects but failed to register damage.
If you use Toggle Zoom on keyboard and mouse, aiming down sights will no longer remain active after actions that normally cancel ADS, such as reloading or swapping weapons. This fix prevents situations where you could not use medical consumables due to a stuck ADS state.
Interface and Player Experience
You should notice improved accuracy when using the radial menu. Rapidly opening, selecting, and closing the wheel now registers your intended choice more reliably.
This update reduces accidental frag grenade throws when you intended to deploy a bubble shield.
Crewmate weapon styles now display correctly on the loadout screen during the preparation phase. Visual loadout information should appear consistently for your squad.
Armory Updates
Barter weapons now correctly display their required trade cost on the weapon tile. You can review exchange requirements without guessing or navigating away from the listing.
Zone-Specific Fixes
Perimeter (Tutorial)
The extraction countdown now properly shows a full 10-second timer when you enter the exfil zone. It no longer flashes “0:00” and disappears.
Cryo Archive
Developers removed an out-of-bounds exploit that allowed you to recover gear after the run timer expired. Remaining in restricted areas past the countdown will no longer trigger unintended refunds.
General Improvements
The overflow inventory now supports more items. This change reduces the risk of losing gear when your main inventory reaches capacity.
Marathon remains available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with full cross-platform play and cross-save support. The title supports online multiplayer and co-op, and it carries a Teen rating with content descriptors for animated blood, language, violence, in-game purchases, and user interaction.
