League Of Legends Aram Mayhem Removes Traits And Adds Ability

You can expect notable changes in Patch 26.12 as ARAM Mayhem shifts its core systems. Riot Games plans to remove traits and replace them with a new set of ability-focused augments, changing how you build power during each match.

This update arrives alongside broader announcements about the game’s future, including adjustments to ARAM features, a new champion named Locke, fresh skins, and a ranked queue experiment. Together, these updates signal a clear effort to refine how you experience ARAM Mayhem and the wider League of Legends ecosystem.

ARAM Mayhem Drops the Trait System

Patch 26.12 removes the Trait mechanic from ARAM Mayhem. You will no longer build around stacked trait bonuses during augment phases.

Developers state that traits often narrowed your decisions instead of expanding them. Many matches pushed you toward specific trait augments, even when other options better suited your champion.

Unlucky rolls could also block trait upgrades, leaving your build underpowered through no fault of your own.

With traits gone, you can focus on individual Silver, Gold, and Prismatic augments without being locked into predefined paths.

League of Legends ARAM Mayhem ability augments explained

Patch 26.12 replaces trait systems with 50 new augments, including a new category called ability augments. These upgrades directly modify how your champion’s core spells function rather than adding only general stat bonuses.

Ability augments interact differently with each kit. The same option can create entirely different outcomes depending on the champion you select, which increases build variety during each augment phase.

One example is Multishot, which splits projectiles and sends them in multiple directions.

  • On Blitzcrank, it can turn a single Rocket Grab into several hooks, letting you threaten multiple enemies at once.
  • On Vel’Koz, it fires multiple Plasma Fissions that split again, increasing poke coverage and improving your ability to trigger his passive with precise positioning.

ARAM: Mayhem still uses tiered augments—Silver, Gold, and Prismatic—but ability augments focus specifically on spell behavior. You shape your playstyle around how abilities change, not just how hard they hit.
