Marvel Rivals Season 8.5 patch notes

Season 8.5 goes live on June 12 and delivers targeted balance updates across all roles. You will see adjustments that affect frontline durability, damage output, and team utility.

Vanguards updated:

  • Angela
  • Devil Dinosaur
  • Magneto
  • Rogue

Duelists adjusted:

  • Black Cat
  • Blade
  • Daredevil
  • Elsa Bloodstone
  • Human Torch
  • Moon Knight
  • Namor
  • Phoenix
  • Star-Lord

Strategists modified:

  • Adam Warlock
  • Cloak & Dagger

  • White Fox

Team-up abilities also change. Explosive Entanglement (Gambit with Magneto or Rogue) receives a slight reduction in effectiveness, limiting its overall impact during coordinated plays.

Primal Flame removes Wolverine from its lineup, reshaping Jean Grey’s synergy options. Wolverine now pairs directly with Cyclops in a new combo called Blast Slash.

Cyclops anchors this team-up. When you activate it, Cyclops empowers Wolverine’s claws with kinetic energy, extending his melee reach for a limited time.

Wolverine’s Vicious Rampage is replaced with Kinetic Claws, letting you spin forward in a dashing slash that maintains pressure while advancing.

Vanguard patch notes in Marvel Rivals Season 8.5

Season 8.5 adjusts several frontline heroes, refining survivability, damage output, and ability pacing across the Vanguard roster.

Hero Key Changes
Angela Assassin’s Charge cooldown drops from 6s to 4s. Shielded Stance shield increases from 300 to 350. Shield recovery on cancel rises from 50/s to 60/s. Time between shield activations lowers from 1.5s to 1s.
Devil Dinosaur Impact Beam no longer knocks enemies down. Buddy Barrier cooldown increases from 10s to 12s. Bleed damage decreases from 3% to 1.5% per second.
Magneto Ultimate duration extends from 4s to 5s. Fully charged ultimate damage increases from 300 to 350.
Rogue Fatal Attraction cooldown reduces from 14s to 12s. Defensive Stance energy cost drops from 60/s to 50/s. Damage-to-energy conversion rises from 35% to 55%.

You gain stronger shield uptime with Angela, longer pressure windows with Magneto, and improved energy efficiency with Rogue, while Devil Dinosaur trades control and bleed damage for tighter balance.

Marvel Rivals Season 8.5: Duelist Buffs and Nerfs

Season 8.5 makes direct adjustments to damage, mobility, and resource flow across the Duelist roster. You will notice tighter engage ranges on some picks and stronger uptime or burst potential on others.

Hero-by-hero changes at a glance

Hero Key Adjustments
Black Cat Lower base damage on core abilities, higher Fortune costs on multiple tools, shorter ultimate dash range, reworked ultimate damage scaling and duration extension
Blade Longer Unstoppable window, higher dash impact damage, stronger spin damage
Daredevil Shorter detection radius, reduced dash lock-on range, slightly shorter crowd-control duration
Elsa Bloodstone Requires less damage to upgrade passive; faster scaling through improved conversion rate
Human Torch Shorter cooldown on Flaming Meteor; quicker recharge on Plasma Body
Moon Knight Reduced damage on primary projectile and blade; lower bounce damage penalty
Namor Greater cooldown refund on Trident hits for Aquatic Dominion
Phoenix Lower healing over time, adjusted long-range damage falloff, reduced KO range thresholds
Star-Lord Less severe long-range damage falloff on Element Guns

Black Cat takes the heaviest hit. You deal less damage with Cat’s Cradle and Phantom Pursuit, and you lose a charge in favor of a cooldown system. Several Fortune-based items now cost more, and one no longer reveals enemies through cover. Her ultimate travels a shorter distance, no longer refreshes fully on eliminations, and applies adjusted flat damage values instead of scaling percentages.

Blade gains more reliable survivability and burst. You stay Unstoppable longer after Scarlet Shroud, and Daywalker Dash hits harder on impact and during its spin.

Daredevil plays closer to fights. You detect enemies at a shorter range, your dash locks on from a shorter distance, and your control window tightens slightly.

Elsa Bloodstone upgrades her passive faster. You need less total damage to trigger Inherited Instinct, and each point of damage contributes more efficiently.

Human Torch improves ability uptime. You cast Flaming Meteor more often and recharge Plasma Body faster.

Moon Knight loses some raw damage, though his bounce penalty softens slightly. Namor cycles Aquatic Dominion faster through improved cooldown reduction.

Phoenix sacrifices sustain and long-range lethality. Star-Lord retains more damage at range, improving mid-distance pressure.

Marvel Rivals Season 8.5 update: Strategists

Season 8.5 adjusts several Strategists, shifting how you sustain teammates and control fights.

You gain stronger charge value on Adam Warlock when Cosmic Cluster connects. Each hit now reduces Avatar Life Stream’s charge time more significantly, letting you access team revival utility more often during extended engagements.

Cloak & Dagger pushes you toward area healing. Direct Lightforce Dagger healing drops from 16 to 12 per target, while its spell field healing rises from 16 to 20. Veil of Lightforce also boosts healing by 20% instead of 15%, rewarding grouped positioning.

Deadpool (Strategist) improves sustained output. Bouncing Bobblehead now heals 50 per second in standard form and 55 per second when upgraded.

Gambit loses some finishing power and mobility on his ultimate:

  • Bonus damage reduced to 20%
  • Movement speed bonus lowered to 30%

Ultron demands tighter positioning and better timing:

  • Drone attach range shortened to 30m
  • Firewall cooldown increased to 12s
  • Ultimate cost raised to 4,300

White Fox’s Spectral Surge fields shrink to a 0.6m radius, requiring more precise placement from you.

Marvel Rivals Season 8.5 Team Synergy Updates

Season 8.5 adjusts several existing team synergies and introduces a new pairing built around Cyclops. You will notice clear reductions to some sustain-heavy combinations and a sharper focus on offensive burst play.

Explosive Entanglement (Gambit – Magneto/Rogue) receives notable nerfs.

  • Rogue’s Hearts As One now restores less health and deals less damage.
  • Bonus damage per hit drops from 3% to 2%.
  • Spell field healing per attack decreases from 55 to 25.

These changes limit prolonged durability and reduce the overall pressure this trio can maintain during extended fights.

Primal Flame (Jean Grey – Wolverine/Black Widow) also changes. Wolverine no longer qualifies for this team-up, narrowing its activation options and shifting his synergy focus elsewhere.

The new highlight is Blast Slash (Cyclops – Wolverine). Cyclops acts as the anchor for this duo. When you trigger the ability, Cyclops channels kinetic energy into Wolverine’s claws, temporarily extending Wolverine’s melee range.

During the effect, Wolverine swaps Vicious Rampage for Kinetic Claws, which lets you dash forward while spinning and slashing. This rework pushes Wolverine toward aggressive engages and coordinated burst plays instead of sustained synergy setups from earlier patches.
