Gray Zone Warfare Visibility Update May 2026

Gray Zone Warfare has received its May 2026 update, bringing meaningful changes to how you approach combat and survival. Patch 0.4.2.0 introduces an experimental Player Visibility system, adjusts NPC combat behavior, and refines several mechanics that shifted balance in the previous major update.

You now face smarter and more deliberate AI patrols, improved enemy accuracy, and tighter rules around high-tier loot handling. These changes push the PvE-focused extraction experience back toward a more demanding pace while the game continues to evolve in early access.

Gray Zone Warfare Update 0.4.2.0 Patch Notes

Experimental System: Player Visibility Indicator

Patch 0.4.2.0 introduces a new experimental visibility mechanic that shows how easily AI can detect you. You now see a visibility distance readout in the top-left corner of your HUD, reflecting how far enemies can spot you under current conditions.

Several factors influence that distance:

  • Vegetation density: Thick jungle and bushes lower your detection range more than open ground.
  • Lighting: Darkness conceals you better than brightly lit areas.
  • Weather: Rain and fog reduce how far AI can see you.
  • Stance: Crouching or going prone makes you harder to detect.
  • Movement speed: Faster movement increases your visibility.
  • Noise: Gunfire and other loud actions temporarily raise your detectability. Suppressors reduce this effect.

This system remains in testing. Some indoor shadows and certain light sources, such as lamps and player flashlights, do not currently affect detection as intended.

Low vegetation can reduce visibility more than expected in some cases. The HUD readout may also show incorrect values in specific biomes.

Detailed Change Log

Update 0.4.2.0 focuses on AI behavior, PvE balance, and stability. You also receive multiple quality-of-life fixes across gameplay systems, user interface elements, and world interactions.

The patch released in mid-May 2026 and applies to live servers.

AI Improvements and Adjustments

AI engagement ranges now align more closely with intended detection limits. Enemies no longer fire from unintended extreme distances.

Patrol units react more reliably when you enter their awareness range. They reposition more often and use smaller pieces of cover more effectively.

Developers added more AI units between key points of interest and increased enemy presence in late-game zones. Endgame areas now feature tougher opposition, with higher accuracy across all AI encounters.

You should expect more reactive firefights and fewer passive enemy groups.

Core Gameplay Fixes

Healing no longer stops if your character vomits or faints during the process. This change prevents unnecessary interruptions in critical moments.

Grenade throws now complete correctly when you change stance mid-animation. You can transition from standing to crouched or prone without canceling the throw.

Several inventory issues have been corrected:

  • Military miscellaneous items can no longer be stored in a wallet.
  • Task items placed in an admin pouch no longer disappear during handover.
  • Certain keys now fit properly inside the Admin Pouch and Kombat Folder.

Loot distribution in Ban Pa now better reflects the area’s difficulty level.

Weapons and Attachments

Repair costs for the M-201C pistol now calculate correctly. Sight durability no longer inflates repair pricing.

After completing the required task, you can now purchase the magazine for Buran’s boss weapon as intended.

Weapon part compatibility rules now function properly during swapping. Parts stored in pockets no longer block attachment changes.

These fixes improve loadout management and reduce friction during customization.

Graphics and Rendering Updates

The IR laser impact point no longer appears at certain distances unless you use night vision goggles. This corrects unintended visibility in standard viewing conditions.

Low-detail vegetation models now transition at appropriate distances. Long-range hit effects have also been refined for clearer visual feedback.

Suppressors produce less visible muzzle flash, aligning visuals with their intended purpose.

Missions and Tutorial Corrections

You can now turn in the task item for “In the Right Hands” without issue. Task progress also resets correctly if you force-close the game while in a coma state.

Some missions previously blocked each other when activated too closely together. That conflict has been resolved.

Tutorial flow has improved:

  • You cannot perform certain actions before receiving the proper prompt in the shooting range.
  • Rapid task completion no longer traps you in the tutorial.
  • Tutorial hints no longer overlap the field manual or settings screen.

The MCX Chameleon magazine has moved to a different location inside the hotel lobby.

Interface Enhancements

The Complete button on the map screen no longer hides behind the task panel. You can now finalize objectives without interface obstruction.

The loot window no longer closes unexpectedly during item transfers. Splitting stacks of money or ammunition in dropped backpacks now updates values correctly.

Additional fixes include:

  • Corrected online status notifications.
  • Resolved a critical error caused by dropping items while hovering over overlapping objects.
  • Prevented old character names from appearing after a wipe.
  • Improved how ban duration displays on the ban screen.

These changes reduce UI confusion and improve reliability.

World Fixes and Environment Adjustments

Certain vegetation elements now respond properly to bullet impacts instead of remaining static.

Some windows in Midnight Sapphire that previously blocked shots now allow proper penetration. You can also walk over a fallen fence near Pha Lang Airfield without obstruction.

The third cache in the “Cache Report” mission now appears as the correct object type. A misplaced jewelry box at Hidden Rock has been repositioned.

Additional Tweaks and Stability Fixes

The sell value of the ATM hacking device has been adjusted.

Selected AI units now drop grenades less frequently. Inactive light sources no longer increase your visibility as though they were turned on.

You will also notice:

  • A corrected animation when switching from a primary weapon to a grenade.
  • Fewer server disconnects after joining a squad and switching servers.
  • Multiple minor text edits.
  • Various client and server crash fixes.

These updates target stability and consistency.

Areas Where You Can No Longer Get Stuck

Starter Town fixes include:

  • Multiple spots near the Criminal Hideout, including rocks, walls, and garden corners.
  • Areas around Hilltop Villas and the Marketplace.
  • Gaps between fences, trees, and buildings near the Warehouse and Lumberyard.

  • Collision gaps near Kiu Vongsa (145, 161) and Nam Thaven Viewpoint (162, 116).

  • A tree near the shopping center (200, 128).

Ban Pa:

  • Two positions at the base of the Elder house (205, 137).
  • Tight gaps between terrain and objects, including mountains, palm trees, and storage boxes.

  • Missing collision rocks near Kapu Boat Rental (209, 122).

Pha Lang Airfield:

  • An issue beneath an aircraft inside Remote Hangars (176, 158).

Fort Narith (FN):

  • A hole near FN-3 Base (150, 135).

Hunter’s Paradise:

  • Two locations near Leuod Waterfalls (157, 167).
  • Rock formations near Sunset Chalet (167, 157).

YBL-1 region:

  • Rock gaps near YBL-1 West (138, 120).
  • Rock formations in Ban Suk (159, 125).

You can now navigate these locations without becoming trapped by terrain or objects.
