What Is ADR in CS2: Definition, Calculation, and Why It Matters

To improve in Counter-Strike 2, you need to understand the statistics that measure your performance. One of the most important metrics is ADR, which tracks the average damage you deal per round and gives a clearer picture of your impact than kill count alone.

If you are new to the game, you may not know what ADR represents or how to check it during a match. Learning how this stat works helps you evaluate your consistency and understand how much you truly contribute each round.

What Is ADR in CS2?

ADR means Average Damage per Round. It shows how much damage you deal, on average, in each round of a match. The game calculates this by dividing your total damage by the number of rounds played.

You can express it with a simple formula:

ADR = Total Damage ÷ Rounds Played

If you deal 300 damage in round one and 0 damage in round two, your total damage is 300 across two rounds. That gives you 150 ADR. The number updates every round as your total damage and round count change.

In a longer match, the same rule applies. For example:

Total Damage Rounds Played ADR
2000 24 83

The game rounds the value to a whole number on the scoreboard.

ADR focuses only on damage dealt to enemy health. It does not reward overkill damage beyond what is needed to eliminate a player. Because of this, ADR reflects consistent contribution rather than isolated highlight plays.

You can post a high ADR without securing many kills. If you weaken multiple opponents and your teammates finish them, you still raise your average damage output. On the other hand, you might collect several final blows while contributing little total damage if you frequently clean up low-health enemies.

This makes ADR a useful way to measure round-by-round impact. It shows whether you consistently pressure opponents, trade effectively, and contribute to team fights. Strong aim, smart positioning, and efficient grenade usage often increase your damage output over time.

While kills appear first on the scoreboard, ADR often gives a clearer picture of how much influence you have in each round.

Checking Your Average Damage In-Game

You do not need to calculate ADR manually. The game tracks it for you in real time.

During a match, hold Tab to open the scoreboard. Then select the small stats cycle icon in the top-right corner. This switches the display to advanced statistics.

Look for the ADR column in the table. You can compare your number with teammates and opponents to see who consistently deals the most damage per round.
